NGD: Epiphone Hockey Stick Tele

I bought this yesterday for $120 including case: 1993 Epiphone T-310. For a Tele copy, it sounds excellent. The neck pup is nothing to get excited about, but the bridge pup is hot! According to the only online info I could find, the body is laminate alder. Whatever it is, it's heavy. Fretboard is rather flat, but frets are medium jumbo. The neck radius reminds me an Ibanez. The hockey stick headstock was used until 1995.

Looks cool and not a bad price at all. I was looking at a hockey stick "Epi" strat at the pawn shop last week. Gotta find out more about the "Epi" label (not Epiphone, probably made by Epiphone). I have to find out more.

Anyways, happy new old hockey stick tele day (hnohstd)

Oh my gawd! I used to have one of those Epi Teles years ago that was black in colour just like yours.

You want to replace the body as soon as possible with a normal ash / poplar / alder Tele body, as it will make a major improvement in tone and mass (as in less mass). I replaced the black plywood body on mine with a used/like-new natural finish ash Mighty Mite body. The maple neck was actually pretty decent on mine, but nothing else was. I no longer have it, as I used it for trading fodder towards an Ovation Celebrity acoustic, which I also no longer have.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I played it for about 3 hours just now. I'll try to get a sound file up soon. It does sound good and not too twangy.

Here's a nice info page of Epiphone's Teles and Strats:

The "Epi" Strats are the first two on the list.

I have a Epi S-310 (strat version of the same guitar) I bought in 1989 and it is a bright yellow with same maple fretboard. Bought it new in a mom/pop type store in NJ one summer. Still have it and around 1990 saw it's most use. I stuck a Jackson J-90C in the bridge added coil cut switch, and had it Frankenstein-ized at one time with no pickguard and a X2N duct taped in place wired directly to the output jack. It has a monster neck and fretboard. I'll probably take it out of semi retirement soon and dress the frets and make her better than when she was new.

Yea, the neck is wide for a standard Gibson nut width - thick too. I find myself playing it slower but cleaner. This might be a better recording guitar than performing guitar.

It's funny, but Epiphone just came out with a new guitar with an Explorer headstock: the EM-2.

Damn cool for $120 bucks.

If I moddeld it, Id try to not do anything thats not reversable and keep the orig parts. Will prob be worth a lot more in a few yrs.

If I do anything to it at all, it will be changing the neck pickup. I love the sound of the bridge pup. I'll try to get a demo track recorded with this tonight - if I'm not too tired when I get off work.

Very cool guitar, congrats!!!

Keep the original electronics for someday and install new pups, caps and pots. I wouldn't change anything else on it.

I got to play a friend's for a few weeks and thought it was a great guitar. Doesn't matter what the body is made from as long as it plays and sounds good.
