How many fewer guitars, amps and pedals and other paraphenalia would you own?

Honestly now?

As you read and post up here, do you feel the aroma of nitro in your nostrils, the thrill of 9 lbs on mahogany nudging your pelvic region, and dreams of unlimited credit in your mind?

Or are you entirely unaffected by the HC effect?

I'd been through well over 200 guitars before I ever knew there was anything more than gear reviews here.

But since discovering that there is more than reviews on HCEG... has your (let's face it) rather profligate and perhaps insatiable appetite for all things guitar become even more pronounced?

... or does HCEG draw the 200-guitar (wo)man, like bees to the honey pot, or like flies to {censored}?

I've had a few things I discovered on here that I probably wouldn't have otherwise... And I've probably bought 5 guitars, 2 or 3 amps and maybe 3 pedals purely because of having seen them on here, but I doubt my purchasing habits have been radically skewed because of HCEG.

:idk:

a lot fewer. I've been through a couple of the "flavor of the month" guitars, amps, and pedals from here. Currently still have a squier CV tele that I never would have even given a second glance at had it not been for here. Also have a Michael Kelly patriot that I bought because of a recommendation from here. Best thing I've bought as a result of this place, imo.

I'm sure by now I would have given up on guitar if it weren't for the encouragement of a few forum members. Also, I wouldn't have 20 guitars sitting around cluttering up the place. But I also wouldn't have a couple of good friends that I've met through here.

As long as I can sell off some of the excess gear I'll be ahead in a couple of areas, none of them being financially.

My gear purchasing habits had already increased before I found HCEG. But, once I settled in here, HCEG definitely had an impact on my GAS. I tried a few of the budget guitar flavors of the week here and there as well as special deals and closeouts. I'm not sure the amount of gear would have been any different without HCEG, but some of the specific choices were certainly influenced by information posted here. Other than a few budget guitars that didn't work out for me, I'm happy with my gear purchases.

THANKS HCEG! :thu:

HCEG is horrible for cranking up your GAS. I took a break from here for about 6 months or so, I had a NY's resolution - no new guitars in 2010.

So I come back around June and next thing you know it's a Siverburst MIM Fender Tele and a Gibson '50s Tribute, now 14 new guitars in 2010 later . . . .

That's why MF foots the bill to keep this thing humming.

I think it would be interesting to see a study of growth in guitar production/sales/hoarding etc. Like I just heard on the news this morning that our average house size has gone from something like 1700 Sq Ft to 2400 Sq Ft in this country since sometime in the 70s. I bet the number of guitars owned by guitar fanciers has skyrocketed from like 1, 2 or 3 max to a substantially higher number in recent years. Definitely a lot of that would totally be attributable to the internet, and internet sales, but before that the catalog business of stores like Sam Ash, Manny's Music, Musicians Friend, Music Emporium, etc. were already stoking the GAS jets. Every month or so a new catalog with new deals would arrive causing big declines in the readership of Playboy and Penthouse.

I have been educated on different name brands of guitar, amps and effects that i did not know existed before becoming a member of HC..

So it has caused a certain amount of curiosity and desire to learn more about these other brands of gear..

The bottom line is no matter how much curiosity i have i only have x amount of dollars to spend on gear..

Plus the fact i only need so much to get the job done..So it may have educated me and caused me to be aware of alternative brands and a more educated shopper but has not increased what i spend per year on gear

Actually, I pretty much just come for the banter, and the trends and GAS don't seem to effect me much. Never been much interested in Agiles, SX's or the like. Small amplifiers don't get me excited. Some people post some pretty sweet guitars, which I admire and appreciate, but my buying habits aren't such that I feel the need to go out and buy guitars like them. At least not most of the time.

The only guitar I bought as a result of reviews on HC was an Xaviere XV900. I have mixed feelings about the purchase the longer I own it. Other than that, my buying of gear hasn't been affected at all by HC. The guitar mags affect me more although I've accumulated enough gear to last awhile. I was a working pro for quite a few years and assumed that a lot of the guys on HC were too. I was wrong.....
