Mainstream, or 'pop' country sucks balls. everyone is entitled to their opinion sir... but Taylor Swift is 20 and a billionaire from songs she writes herself... so there is a market for it obviously... i'm not a huge mainstream fan either, i'm a Texas Country fan... the song i posted is an excellent song regardless... let us not forget either that the greats were all "mainstream" in their day... from Johnny to Hank, Patsy to Loretta... all mainstream... Members etawful
I'd say that the Zac Brown Band is more of a boon to mainstream country music, and more likely to draw an audience from other genres (hell, if they're enough of a draw to play Bonnaroo, you know they're pulling a diverse audience). They put on one hell of a good live show too.

Members Mike Fiasco
It's a matter of taste. Your guy has a good voice and writes a good song but i can't get into "good guy country". It's a shame because Brad Paisley is a great player and singer, but I just can't get into "I've got a wife, I drive a chevy, I wear boots, I like kids" thing. Outlaw country. That's the {censored}. I'd never heard of them until I saw some footage of them at Bonnaroo last year. . . . came away VERY impressed. And I'm not a country fan by any means . Members dcooper830
I like it. It's a little preachy though. And I agree it sounds the same as a lot of the mainstream country coming out right now....... but I actually like that sound. I love all kinds of country from the old classics like Carter Family on through Earnest Tubbs, Hank Snow, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Waylon Jennings, on through George Strait. And I LOVE 90's country like Little Texas, Clint Black's 1st 2 albums, Diamond Rio, Mark Chesnut, Joe Diffy, Neil McCoy..... etc....... And I really like a lot of the 2000's country also. I really like that Easton Corbin. I'm actually not that crazy about Zac Brown though. "Chicken Fried" is very popular but that song is so friggin' stupid IMO. And "Sick 'em on a chicken" makes me cringe it's so awful. But, hey, everything Zac touches turns to gold...... so I'm not gonna argue to much with that. And a couple years ago I got exposed to Red Dirt and I really love that stuff! Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland & The Stragglers, Reckless Kelly etc...... I just like it all! Even the new stuff. If it has a good melody and big harmonies and some steel and teles on it..... it's all good! So I like the song you posted Diceman

He may be the guy who wrote "Then," but he also wrote "I'll Take You Back." BTW, when I saw Paisley about a month ago, the air in the place got sickly sappy sweet when he played "Then." All the lighters and snuggling, not even neckin', couples. It was like Cupid traded arrows for Karo. "Good Guy" country has sure moved far from the days of Merle, Cash, Waylon....
