Yeah yeah... This is a bass guitar. But it has 5 strings!!! So that is about halfway between a bass and an electric! :p

But I was reading up on John Paul Jones and saw he played a Fender Bass V. I usually hate 5 string basses because I have never seen the point of them (when I play them at least) because I can always go higher up on the 4th string to get any high note I would need. When I see other people play 5 strings (I know there are people who utilize them in a better way but I usually see people just use the last string as a shortcut). But I saw the Fender Bass V and it makes sense! It only has 15 frets so another string makes so much sense since you can't go that high on the fret board!!! So now I want one. But according to the internet they are pretty rare... Can I make one??? :p

This is a 5-string that has a higher string rather than a low B? Interesting. I agree that there isn't a point there. But I've played bass in bands, and I'm a 5-string player - but it's a low B.

It is? Then never mind. Maybe I don't know what I am talking about.

I know the Fender Bass VI (or something like that) has two higher strings, but that's the only one I've seen. It's like an octave-down guitar. I know the Beatles used it late in their career (when they all started switching instruments), and I'm pretty sure Jack Bruce used one. I played a reissue once, and thought that it seemed more like a gimmick than something I could actually use, but that's just me. I love the 5th string on a bass - being able to hit low Eb and D is nice, and hitting that low B can be a great effect.

I play a 5 string with a higher string, basically like a 6 string bass but no low b. Is there a point to the higher string? Yeah. They wouldn't sell many 6 string basses if not.

Like you said, it's like an octave down guitar, the neck length is between a bass and guitar. There are actually many models based on that that aren't hard to get now.
