Xavier bodies / hardware... quality?

I am wanting to put together a nice tele at a decent price and was wondering what people thought of the quality on the xaviers... they have this model a XV-835 Flamed Maple tele and the flame on it looks amazing, as well as being fully bound etc... it also states they are made to fit strat replacement necks as well.... I was thinking of at first getting the xavier and at the same time purchasing one of the mighty mite maple necks with the cbs style headstock and throwing that on there and then systematically changing whichever hardware annoys me as well as the pickups

I am just curious as to whether the body is of a decent quality

I bought myself a Strat body from GFS > http://www.guitarfetish.com/Vintage-Sunburst-Lightweight-Sratocaster-Style-Body_p_2071.html

Had some handling marks on it, but nothing that penetrated the finish - I was able to wipe it clean, no more marks! I also order a neck from GFS, maple, and it didn't fit. Looked closer at the body and saw that it wasn't exactly routed out perfectly for the neck - it was like they missed a spot or something. Again, easy fix - didn't have a router, but was able to file and sand (which I now realize wasn't necessary) to make the neck fit in beautifully.

I'm waiting on a bridge, but I am expecting that this guitar will be gig-able (not junk). GFS gets great reviews here, which is why I decided to order from them... and I have not yet been disappointed.

Good luck with your build, man! That Tele body does look beautiful!

I got one of the painted (paulownia) Tele bodies and was pleasantly surprised. It is extremely light and surprisingly resonant considering that it's a little soft. The only problems I encounted was that it took a little work to enlarge the neck pocket to fit a Fender neck and after a few weeks the strap pins were pulling out, but I just had to drill and dowel and the problem had long term solution. $50 for a finished body? Are you kidding me??? These things are a terrific value!

^The way you guys say that the neck didnt fit and you had to sand and file and dowel to make it right dont sound like a fantastic value to me. I'm sure its not good quality wood either

I have yet to find an aftermarket body that the neck pocket fits a fender neck perfectly, unless it was a fender body lol.... they normally come slightly smaller and have to be fit.... and he didnt say he had to sand and dowel the neck, he was talking about the strap buttons, he said one fell off and had to fill the hole and replace the screw....

That tells me the wood quality is poor. You get what you pay for dude

You are pretty combative about this
lol

although I had the strap button fall out of my gibson sg standard.... I don't think quality was too poor on that lol

not really. I just like to buy parts and not to have to fight to make everything fit. especially when he is talking about dowelling and all. i aint exactly bob villa with this kind of stuff ya know

Pauwlonia is specifically a very lightweight and rather delicate wood (not unlike basswood). It's used for surfboards! You are trying to compare apples and oranges here. If you want a bulletproof guitar, you will use ash, which is much, much harder and structurally stable. I think most of the folks getting the paulownia stuff know exactly what they are getting...

Okay so I make a critique on a company because the parts dont fit exactly when you put them together, and that makes me a troll? Dont be a douche dude.

Exactly! Using the paulownia body I ended up with a

BTW, I've also had to dowel for the strap pins in my ash-bodied Fender Strat and my mahogany-bodied Fender Tele. Of course it took nearly 20 years for them to need it. :-) And having a neck pocket a little too small is way better than having it a little too large.

You have the reading comprehension of a 3 year old. I wasn't refering to one post in particular. I meant every freaking thread you post in "douche".

And here is a lesson dumbass. When you build guitars out of parts that aren't made to work together, you have to make {censored} fit.

Are you missing a set of gibson pickups by any chance???

Unless you have bought a body from them then you have no basis for critiques. Cant critique something you have never seen.

hey dude he asked what we thought. my friend bought warmoth parts and that {censored} fit like a glove. so to the op i recommend warmoth

I have a really cheap and nasty Tele body ,sound like pawlownia.Thick poly ,top loader only bridge as I couldnt drill out accurate holes in this its too soft ,light as a feather. The thing played like a dream, very resonant and acoustic ,as load as a 335 unplugged and a spare Fender neck I fitted to it to cap it all ,no mods needed so that blows one theory about cheap bodies never having Fender sized pockets. An expensive neck on a 20 quid ebay body .No idea of the make .Its hovering in my workroom awaiting another neck and pickups etc .Oddly I would not sell it ,burn it as firewood or turn it into a hamsters surf board .It really is that good.

FYI, the cheapest (unfinished) Warmoth strat body is $250, whereas the referenced Guitarfetish body is $49.95. Once again, my friend, you are comparing apples to oranges. I think most folks buying from Warmoth expect the fit and finish to be absolutely perfect, whereas only an idiot would expect the same for something a fifth the price. I would hope that most folks buying the GFS stuff understand that it will take a bit of sweat equity, but in the end they will have something that works for them. If not, then caveat emptor... :poke:

Hey, if the OP has the money and inclination to spend 6-10X the amount on a finished Warmoth body, then he should go for it. They do make great stuff. But the OP stated he wanted to building "a nice Tele for a decent price" and asked, specifically, about the GFS products.

Let's see:

GFS $50

Warmoth $300

Hmmm. . . . I wonder why someone might consider buying the GFS instead.

Now, if the OP had said "I can afford a Warmoth, should I buy a GFS instead?" Your opinion might have some validity.

But . . . well . . . you figure it out.

I'm sorry but you are dead wrong. :cop::cop: All a newbie needs is a keyboard and an over inflated view of what they think they know.

I have a thin style LP type Xaviere. I put a new control on it the other day and was worried about how thick/dense the wood was.

Answer: Not dense at all. It was solid but very light. Not sure what the wood is, not very tone friendly. But, it's still my main pick up and go to a bar axe.

He is 22, and always right. If it doesn't say Gibson on it, it is crap.

Maybe if we ignore him, he will go away.

When I was young

I never needed anyone

And makin' love was just for fun

Those days are gone

Livin' alone

I think of all the friends I've known

But when I dial the telephone

Nobody's home

All by myself

Don't wanna be, all by myself anymore

All by myself

Don't wanna live, all by myself anymore

Hard to be sure

Some times I feel so insecure

And love so distant and obscure

Remains the cure

All by myself

Don't wanna be, all by myself anymore

All by myself

Don't wanna live, all by myself anymore
