Question about Peavey Wolfgangs

So i have a chance to get a USA made special for what seems like a good deal.

The only thing i don't like is that it is a gold top. I usually don't mind them on most guitars but on a wolfie it just seems a little gaudy.

What do you guys think? Does it hurt the resale value?

I've got a goldtop Standard Wolfgang. I like them better than the gold studios. IMO, a goldtop needs the binding and the contrast between the gold top and whatever color the back is (black in the case of the Wolfgang) to look its best.

GD those birdseye maple necks on those Wolfgangs give me gas.

Depends on what you call a 'good deal'.

Anything more than $500-600 for a used special is not a good deal, regardless of color.

Id stay away from the USA Specials. I had one for years that I used as a beater. I got it for $380 6 or 7 years ago. The prices I've seen for them haven't steadily climbed. Mine sounded good, but had a bad fret job and the nut was a tad off center. If I were you, I'd skip it. Take a look at a sterling axis or a peavey EXP wolfgang or just save your money and either buy a Peavey wolfgang standard or the new EVH special.

I think Peavey Wolfgangs are amazing guitars, for some reason most people tend to favor the EBMM EVH, but they both have their high points and the 15" radius neck on the Wolf is a better one for me than the 10" radius on the Ball. I own a few of both models and they both kick ass.If you do not care for the Gold do not be in a rush and just keep an eye on the listings and a color you like will appear.

I would advise you to try and get a US Wolfgang Special Deluxe as you have a maple cap and a flame top if you can swing it. Stay away from the EXPs which for some reason seem to fetch 1K for a guitar that sold for $550 new. Those are the Korean models, and you can pin them out as they have a quilt top sheet veneer, a Satin finish on the neck, the VH logo is not branded in the wood and they have cheaper tuners and Floyd and the serial number will start with a 0. So know what you are buying.

LOL. Have you actually seen anyone pay $1k for a Korean Special, or are you just talking about the idiots listing them for way too much? Korean Specials should go for $300-350 tops. $1k is getting to the high end of what a top-of-the-line arch flametop w/floyd model should go for, although the same idiots are listing those for $2k and up trying to hook a sucker there too.
