Members RockNote
I was listening to Black Limousine yesterday, and I thought to myself, "Damn, that is second to none blues rock singing!" I have been searching through Youtube but can find no clips of the studio version (Tattoo You), which is the one I have in mind. As is commonly agreed upon amongst both fans and detractors, rock music is nothing if not a communication of sex and sexuality. From a historical point of view, there may be no greater sex symbol than Mick Jagger, who was, and perhaps still is, an institution. This, in a sense, is strange, in so far as heterosexuality is the norm, but I reckon Mick Jagger's bisexuality fits the bill nicely in so far as rock calls for a Dionysian front man. (The Greek god Dionysus is said to be somewhat feminine.) Anyway, it got me wondering who may be said to be the straight "Mick Jagger" (MJ considered as an institution). I was thinking of guys like: Jim Morrison, Iggy Pop, David Lee Roth. What do you think?

Members Tidal Rhythm
There are none that can compare to Jagger regardless of their sexuality. The same is true for Morrison and the others you listed. The thing that makes great vocalists/frontmen is they're originals.
Members Faber
Playing with and obscuring sexual boundaries have been part of rock from the get go regardless of the actual sexuality of the performers - Little Richard in al his screaming campiness for instance. Jagger fits right into a long standing tradition
Members Grantus
I'm trying to figure out why the straightness of a front man matters. We're listening to their music, not screwing them.

Why would his sexuality matter anyway?"rock music is nothing if not a communication of sex and sexuality" - i don't agree actually, not if imagination has anything to do with the creative process

Not sure if she made that up or not but its pretty lolz I think that was Biancia, and I don't remember Lou being part of the story. Edit: Actually, it was Angie Bowie, and Lou wasn't there. And she later backtracked. http://www.snopes.com/music/artists/bowie.asp
Members PunkKitty
Who cares? Being straight or LGBT has nothing to do with music. The nature of this question is offensive.

Members Hotrod Lincoln
Who would you guys consider the modern day Mick Jagger? Other than Mick himself of course considering he's still kicking it on stage
Members bsman
I tend to doubt that anybody will achieve that sort of status nowadays. Remember, the Stones came around when there were a couple of paradigms that have changed ineluctably and will never be repeated: During the early 60s to late 70s there was a paucity of media outlets for music, tv, etc. and thus an entire generation were exposed to the same thing at the same time. Now, there are literally thousands of sources for an incredible variety of media that kids can self-select. Thus, rather than being at the mercy of programmers, todays young people control their media. I believe that we will never again see the likes of the Beatles, Stones, Elvis, etc -- superstars whose fame persisted and grew with time. Rather, today we have instant celebrities who are quickly consigned to the dump with the next 24-hour news cycle. So, my short answer is: There will never be a modern-day Mick Jagger, for good or ill...
