Members halfnote
Back when I was a kid I heard this track Root of Star by Marc Bolan's band T Rex.It was the record just before they hit the big time. It's somewhat silly lyric similar to what Noel Redding might've written but if you can tolerate it, there's actually some well-nuanced wah gtr vaguely like shoed up later on JJ Cale's "Crazy Mama", though not as smooth. Here's my qeustion: can that actually be Marc Bolan ?I have not been able to find any listing that accounts for anyone else playing on that record (prod. by Tony Visconti). Anybody hear this before ?Have any idea who it might be ? Thanks...

At that time only Bolan played guitar as far as I know, they had a few extra guitar personnel from maybe 73 onwards but if thats pre big time, then I'd guess it's Marcs own work
Members Surrealistic
I'd be very surprised if it wasn't Marc Bolan. Why would you think it wouldn't be? I like some of his stuff in the period before he got mega-famous (even though the lyrics were usually crud).
Members csm
Marc did use other guitarists in later versions of T. Rex, notably Miller Anderson (formerly of the Keef Hartley band, later in a short-lived three-guitar version of Savoy Brown also featuring Stan Webb from Chicken Shack alongside Kim Simmonds) ... but the wah on that track sounds like Marc himself. Members Folky_Grunge
Yeah, that sounds like Marc to me, and it makes sense that it would be him, since he played the vast majority of T. Rex's guitar parts. I find it kind of sad that you had to ask, though. I know Marc isn't usually regarded as a great guitar player, but he was pretty good, and he got great tone. Members Kap'n
Yep, that's Marc. When he brought in somebody (like Jack Green here), it was to do something vastly different. Much less 'gutar hero' which Marc always facied himself. af-x67MHl2U Marc could play some pretty cool wah stuff wiuAiJ0WcK8
