Only a Gibson is good enough - case that is. Best form fitting case I've ever owned and that includes my real hardshell Fender case made before they cheapened them.

And this is what came inside:

It's a Studio Lite from 2000; somebody's case queen in like new condition. The story (short form) goes like this: In the area so I stopped into Cowtown Guitars looking for nothing in particular. Pulled down a nice looking PRS, no connection whatsoever (neck too thin, sound generic, bottom string too close to edge). Saw this guitar, liked what I saw and felt - light but not neck heavy, half the width of a regular Les Paul, big fat chunky neck with Grover tuners. Pass, pass, pass, pass - hate fat guitars with no tummy cut, not a fan of the stick green tuners, no thinline necks for me and definitely prefer light (function over style all the way for me). Plugged it into an Orange combo on the floor - total LP bliss. Nothing sounds quite like a good LP IMO and this is a good one IMHO. Made an offer, phone call made, offer accepted (consignment item). Got within about $400 of paying it off by selling a few pedals I don't use, a dano style Telestar and some records, but my wife is still not satisfied. Still trying to liquidate:cry: Jeesh, whatever happened to a Christmas Spirit?

Check out this figured fretboard:

Madagascar or maybe a missplaced plank of you know what.

Yes - you did sell out. But I sold out to a Trad Pro, and more recently a Satin Black Tribute w/ P90's. I love/hate the Gibson company. I like the gold h/w with the black. 4 paws up from Lamb Chop.

Woody, that just brought tears to my eyes. Another sellout, and with so little shame, and OMG FOUR STARS.

PS For those that don't know, this is my first Gibson. So as not to seem offensive though, I've always loved the sound but hated the hype. Gibson does know how to make a very good guitar at all price points.

That's nice. I remember seeing them for sale "back in the day" but never did try one out.

The Studio was of course designed to be a light Les Paul but the Studio Lite took it one step further by having a block of what Gibson called "chromyte" somewhere in the center of the body. At the time I remember some folks scoffing that it was balsa. Well whether it was balsa or not didn't change the fact that I was curious about the tone and feel of that guitar. Later on I recall reading something about them which said they came with a 496/500 pickup combo. Again increasing my interest in what must be a bit of a unique tone from a Les Paul. I'd imagine it must sound quite lively, and resonant.

There was a blue one back in the day that used to attract me.

Le me go see if I can find one. :lem:

Interesting write-up there too. It's like I was saying above and a nice way of putting it in that the chromyte (balsa) block inserts were more of a precursor to the chambering they do more of today.

Description: Super Cool Version Of the Gibson Les Paul: 1996 Studio Lite. These guitars are not chambered, instead they have Chromite inserts, this is what Gibson calls Balsa wood. If you think balsa is a cheap wood, you are way wrong, it is one of the strongest light woods, one can find. The back of the guitar is mahogany, just like the regular ones and the top is maple. The buzz on this honey is the fact that it screams. All original. including the gibson padded Gigbag. Factory Black hardware gives this guitar a unique Vibe.

Cool find. :thu:

Thanks buddy. I like the way you always do your research before diving in. And then you always dive right in well actually you have been known to do a one and a half back with a half twist as well.

Anyhoo, regarding your info, this is really a rare bird. These things were supposed to have stopped production in 98 - mine is a 2000 according to the serial #. They were supposed to have open coil ceramics, mine are obviously covered something or other (not changin them cause they $). They were supposed to have skinny necks and ebony boards, mine is very chunky with figured rosewood.
