Repeat after me: Phaser before distortion.

Go.

i prefer mine after but i can't remember why - need to stop getting drunk at rehearsal! why did you prefer it before?

i use a behringer ph9 which is very nice for the money. apparently it's a copy of the MXR EVH phaser. that's the sound i was going for anyway and i like it. it seems to add a touch of lower mids and shaves a bit of highs which is nice for leads. don't like it on clean at all though, boomy and too subtle. needs to be used with a tight distortion

here's a comparative before/after distortion clip that you might find interesting. there is a difference, although not a huge one.

to me, phaser after distortion has a stronger and clearer phase effect, which is contrary to what most people seem to think. then again, different phasers and distortions may work together differently so your best bet is to try it in person.

i'll try it with my own gear on friday and report back

I put together a video showing a phaser before/after overdrive HERE. Skip to about 1:30 for the big fight scene.

Personal preference: Phaser first, but I also usually only use the phaser on a "light" setting during solos. Sticking a phaser at the end of your chain produces a very different sound, and can be nice to swirl up held chords.

If space weren't an issue, I'd have a Phase 90 up front, and the PH-1r at the end. They both sounds great, but the 1r (and the other Bosses as well) have this amazing sweetness to them that you want to preserve.

Having a couple of phasers is good :3

Yeah, I've become a cheap pedal whore. And I have duplicates as far as types go. Most of my collection is Boss pedals. I have:

2 Phasers

2 Chorus Pedals

2 Envelope filter/auto wah pedals

2 Overdrives

2 Distortions

2 Noise suppressors

1 Octave

1 Analog Delay

1 Enhancer

1 Equalizer

1 Loop Pedal

1 Tuner

1 A/B/Y switch

Mind you, I don't use them all at once. I'll allow 9 pedals max on my board for space and sanity reasons. Though I've been tempted to plug them all in at once just for fun!
