Members billybilly
Hi. I have strat, some corrosion on pickups magnets and whilst filing, I broke some of the copper wiring, not the main ones connecting the solder, but some in the wind. Maybe 5 to 10 of the winds. Will it matter? I am not versed on the subject. thanks if you can help. billy

Members flummox
Yes it matters. Sorry, but that pickup is likely trashed.

Members ej
if theres still a decent connection its not a huge deal. Pics would help us to make an assessment.
Members billybilly
I realize you are probably right that its toast but it does not make sense. Copper, being such a good conductor, should allow for some breakages as it would conduct nonetheless. No?
Members billybilly
Cant' really see in pics anyway, it's slight and I folded them in. As I said, maybe 8 wires at the most, probably 5, hard to tell where it starts and ends but it's obviously on the outer wind then pushed into the rest of the copper. Members PunkKitty
Test it with a multimeter. But my guess is that the pickup is trashed. I'd have it rewound.

I would think if it works at all it would be very weak. Multimeter will tell you.

If we're talking about the coil-windings being damaged, those windings are one, single, long, thin wire wrapped around the bobbin---not multiple wires. Break that sucker, and the pickup is a dead---apart from some labor-intensive/expensive beyond it's value, type repair (unless it's a vintage piece).
