Members Steadfastly
I'm looking at getting a new amp and have always been intrigued by the Fender Super Champ XD but now that the Mustang II is out, I kind of like it too. Which one would you recommend and why? Please don't tell me because the Champ is a tube amp; that's not enough reason. Thanks.
Members Raxus Prime
Mustang II. Great amp, software, Fuse Community online and easy to record with.
Members TheBlueStrat
super champ XD cuz the champ is a tube amp
Members hecticone
The xd because it is an actual amp. I have drug mine around to lots of open jams. Its well built sturdy cabinet. Sounds great and can be turned up without it sounding like a toy. I have upgraded the speaker and tubes tho.
Members jelloman
SCXD...it actually sounds that good, instead of just emulating an amp that sounds that good...
Members Minnie The Moocher
I have both (well, the SCXD and the Mustang I). I'll sell the SCXD I think.
Members hecticone
Hope you don't plan on abusing that mustang at all. They will implode you know.
Members cratz2
The Mustang II, esp with an upgraded speaker, is a LOT of amp for the money. I'd possibly take the SC XD for recording or maybe for smaller shows or as a backup amp to a bigger amp, esp because of the speaker level out, but for me... for my money and for my needs, I'd take the Mustang II and put a bit better speaker in it. Members Karma1
I haven't tried the Mustang yet, but I've been using an SCXD since it came out for small gigs and recording and I'm still very impressed with it. I did upgrade the speaker to a Jensen Neo, but even with the stock speaker, it's a great little amp.
Members BoneNut
Voted for the Mustang, just because that's what I'll be buying in a couple of weeks and I've never even played one. I really don't know that much about amps but plenty of guys who are quite knowledgeable have gone nuts about how good it is. It's been a few weeks since the first ones came out so I figured I'd see people changing their minds after the honeymoon period but no... they all still seem to happy as clams. Members hecticone
I think the Mustang is just the flavor of the month. I just can't see buying an amp that I would be afraid to take out of the house. And if there is anyone gigging one I want to hear what you have to say in 6 months or so. Members sk8centilli
OTHER I got a [barely] used CyberTwin SE in mint condition (with cover and 4 button footswitch) at Guitar Center for the price of a Super Champ XD. Why? It is a beast of an amp: clean and graceful; raunchy and rude; quiet and gritty; and lustfully loud. They're not toys. They sold for $1300 new, but on the used market you can get them for the price of a toy.
Members D Carroll
Super champ, as stated above, it's a great amp. The mustang is a pretty {censored}ty amp, it just sounds bad, and it's poorly made.

So, that raises another question....are all clams happy? And is that before or after going into the boiling water or steamer?
Members guitarman3001
SCXD because it's a tube amp. I'd also look at the comparable vox VT amp. I picked the VT30 over the SCXD even though the vox isn't an actual tube amp. It does have a tube as part of the power section though so it's capable of emulating natural tube compression pretty well.
Members DFB
Super Champ would be the way to go.I only sold mine because it is to loud for playing latenight in my apartment.I do have a Mustang 1 as my practice amp and do like it alot. The Super Champ is much better IMHO.

Tubes... plural. It IS a tube amp, not just a modeling solid state amp that happens to have a tube shoved in the circuit.

Haha, as long as there aren't any Fender amps around, you should be good. I've never played through the Mustang, but I've played through an XD, and I've also sat in a jam session with a guy who had one. The XD is a fine amp, and I'm sure you'd be pleased with it. I prefer the Vox - I just think its models sound better.
Members drunkinminer
SCXD hands down. The Mustang ii left alittle to be desired. But that's just me YMMV.
