New Fender Amp-The Super Champ XD or The Mustang II?

I'm looking at getting a new amp and have always been intrigued by the Fender Super Champ XD but now that the Mustang II is out, I kind of like it too.

Which one would you recommend and why? Please don't tell me because the Champ is a tube amp; that's not enough reason. Thanks.

The Mustang II, esp with an upgraded speaker, is a LOT of amp for the money.

I'd possibly take the SC XD for recording or maybe for smaller shows or as a backup amp to a bigger amp, esp because of the speaker level out, but for me... for my money and for my needs, I'd take the Mustang II and put a bit better speaker in it.

I haven't tried the Mustang yet, but I've been using an SCXD since it came out for small gigs and recording and I'm still very impressed with it. I did upgrade the speaker to a Jensen Neo, but even with the stock speaker, it's a great little amp.

Voted for the Mustang, just because that's what I'll be buying in a couple of weeks and I've never even played one.

I really don't know that much about amps but plenty of guys who are quite knowledgeable have gone nuts about how good it is. It's been a few weeks since the first ones came out so I figured I'd see people changing their minds after the honeymoon period but no... they all still seem to happy as clams.

OTHER

I got a [barely] used CyberTwin SE in mint condition (with cover and 4 button footswitch) at Guitar Center for the price of a Super Champ XD.

Why?

It is a beast of an amp: clean and graceful; raunchy and rude; quiet and gritty; and lustfully loud. They're not toys. They sold for $1300 new, but on the used market you can get them for the price of a toy.

So, that raises another question....are all clams happy? And is that before or after going into the boiling water or steamer?:)

Super Champ would be the way to go.

I only sold mine because it is to loud for playing latenight in my apartment.

I do have a Mustang 1 as my practice amp and do like it alot. The Super Champ is much better IMHO.

SCXD because it's a tube amp.

I'd also look at the comparable vox VT amp. I picked the VT30 over the SCXD even though the vox isn't an actual tube amp. It does have a tube as part of the power section though so it's capable of emulating natural tube compression pretty well.

The Vox Valvetronix amps kill everything else in their price range, IMO.

OK, why? I would very much appreciate your opinion.

Does that mean I'll have to put up defense mechanisms around my other equipment if I get the Valvetronix?

Haha, as long as there aren't any Fender amps around, you should be good.

I've never played through the Mustang, but I've played through an XD, and I've also sat in a jam session with a guy who had one. The XD is a fine amp, and I'm sure you'd be pleased with it. I prefer the Vox - I just think its models sound better.
