Members pak066
OT: well personally, i dont like LPs with pickguards on them but thats just me. so maybe he would like that. but you could look at reissues if you really want to get a classic look but those are pretty expensive. this looks pretty classic to me:http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-Traditional-Plus-Electric-Guitar-104912340-i1400047.gc or this:http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-Traditional-Electric-Guitar-104912233-i1400045.gc or you can go the edwards road and get a great guitar for 1/2 the price:http://www.guitarjapan.com/edwards/spec/e-lp-85cd_p.html(personally...im lusting for one of these) hope this helps some... Members maltomario
axcess FTW! i think it looks classic. floyds are ~ 30yrs old at this point anyway which makes them classic from a technical standpoint. =) i'm not a fan of pickguards on gibsons.. my LP standard i've left original (no pickguard from factory). i like it that way, YMMV. here's a pic of the standard for comparison purposes
Members Brian May
You do get a pickguard with the new Standards...its inside the case and you fit it yourself - if you want to. The LP Traditional is a wonderful guitar and IS the same guitar as the Pre 2007 Standard except for its 57 Classics. The new Standards are chambered instead of cheese holed for weight relief. I played a students LP Trad just the other day and it was GORGEOUS...lovely neck and feel, tone and look. Definately looked every part the classic LP look to me! I own a 2004 Standard which I love also.
Members ubernerd
You're one heck of a nice dad! For a more "classic" new Les Paul without spending the big bucks on reissues, the Traditional is the route to go. Or you can always go used and check out your local craigslist or eBay. The Access is probably the most non-classic way you can go.
Members jhorne
You could get a Custom Shop 57RI Chambered Gold Top VOS for $2054 using music123.com's 123% price match. music123 will give you 23% of the difference off the lower price so, ($3899 - $2399) * .23 = $345 and $2399 - 345 = $2054 on sale at MF ($2399): http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-1957-Chambered-Les-Paul-Goldtop-VOS-Electric-Guitar?sku=518057 at music123 ($3899): http://www.music123.com/Guitars/Electric-Guitars/Solid-Body-Electric-Guitars/1957-Chambered-Les-Paul-Goldtop-VOS-Electric-Guitar-Antique-Gold.site7sku518057000294000.sku Can't beat getting a Custom Shop RI for less than the regular price of a Standard. Although some might not want the chambered body...
