Members phil37
Hi, On Saturday I posted a thread asking for advice for my first gig, well I did it so I thought I would report back. I absolutely loved every minute of being on stage!! I was terrified, my wife said she saw me trying to smile but I was concentrating too much!! Before the gig the guys in the band (put togethor by my guitar teacher to give us the chance to perform) on a couple of principles 1) If we were going to mess up we weren't going to be shy about it 2) Shirts, ties, cashmere jumpers and tweed is the new punk 3) We can't be as bad as those peeps on the X factor (not soo sure about that one personally) We got up on stage played our songs and although I lost count of the nuber of mistakes I made, thanks to the friendly audience (friends and family were given a three line whip) we got a rousing welcome! we played/decimated American idiot, You realy got me, Valerie, Don't speak, Torn, feeling good (Muse version ish) and Knocking on Heavens door. The only criticism was that a 6'3" and 90kg my sterling axis looked like a guitar hero controller in my hands :facepalm:Any suggestions on a guitar for the *ahem* larger gentleman! Cheers for all the advice, i can't wait for the next chance to play!! ps You haven't rocked until you have seen middle aged blokes in shirts, ties and cashmere playing american idiot
Members mikeman
Good to hear it went well and as you get more comfortable on stage things will loosen up. You can look into a Buckethead sig Gibson, it is larger than standard LP's.
Members fu2jobu
Gratz on popping your cherry. I really miss playing out with a band, it's such a good rush. The only criticism was that a 6'3" and 90kg my sterling axis looked like a guitar hero controller in my hands :facepalm:Any suggestions on a guitar for the *ahem* larger gentleman! You could try a Hollow Body guitar as those tend to be much larger. Though at 6' 3" and 200 Lbs I think most any guitar would look fine. At 6' 2" and a few more pounds I never thought my LP's looked small on me

Members sylvesterlowery
Glad you had fun!The first time I played guitar in front of an audience, it was fun, but we had all sorts of problems. I didn't play live until 13 years later and it went much better. It's definitely a rush playing to a crowd.
Members jumpwin
God be praised for Cashmere jumpers! I rock chino's and clarks! As for guitars for the *ahem* 'fuller' gentleman. I have had to lay my JagStang to rest for the same reason. Got me a couple of semi, 335 type guitars, and they are perfectly in scale with my body!Kudos on your first gig! Members notjonahbutnoah
The first time I played in front of anyone I was so shaky, I was missing notes. Terrible nerves. Wow. Now, {censored}, I could have a terrible haircut complimented by a marble sized boil on the tip of my nose and be sound as a pound. I crave it. You'll be addicted soon, so be careful.
