Members cratz2
He's not - double cut LP is one of the ugliest guits everSorry, I read this an hour and a half ago, fainted and evidently knocked myself out on the way down.
Members ΨWindingΨ
But then becomes muddy when overdriven. I found this very useful when wanting to get a Les Paul clear and not muddy. Works like a charm. EQ Your Amp for the NeckMost of the time you
Members gmac
I used to have an old SG with a trem and it worked a dream for playing what I was playing then. When it came to choosing a new Gibson recently the SG didn't recreate the old charm, and the LP got the vote. I like them both. But what I really want is a lefty Yamaha SG or an Ibanez Artist. None available though.
Members Dega500
I don't like the insubstantiality of the body. I was gonna say that I find SG's too light feeling as compared to Les Pauls (even lighter LP's) but I think Special J said it perfectly! Members Vexed
SG= better upper fret access, lighter, better cleans, more visually appealing (IMO). As far as how they sound w/ dirt, it's a tossup- LP = fatter, big mid range punch. SG = biting/cutting/articulate. Both are icons of the guitar world obviously, comes down to a matter of preference ultimately. As far as current Gibson market prices go, I think the SG is a much bigger bang for the buck (Standards/Traditionals).
Members troyguitar
LP because I can't stand neck dive. Though I prefer my Jackson RR1 to anything.
Members smorgdonkey
That doesn't make you a bad guy, just that you are horribly, horribly misguided. And you have terrible taste. That is true.
Members Weiner_Bomb
Not fond of neck-dive. And the les just plain sounds bigger
Members Willyguitar
For me les pauls are far superior - bigger sound, better balance, just... better. Nicer, more complex sounds for the most part. Same with the P90s ones. I went through a phase of playing a LP Junior alongside an SG Classic. The Junior completely kicked the SG into touch in every department, apart from that of weight. The SG was just completely lacking in sustain and depth. Very average sounding to me. Also, I associate SGs with ACDC. I'm sure that's why some people buy them, but I find that midget in the school shorts with sweat spraying off him, not only ridiculous but slightly nauseating. Members SGRocker30
Sg, because God played one back in the 60's, when he was still God. Plus I would have to be the world's biggest douchebag to try to argue for the Lester with my name being SGrocker30 and all. To be honest I can't decide between the two, which is why I currently have 2 of each, with a rosewood fretboard and ebony fretboard example for both. That's what i recommend, get 2 of each. Members Brian May
I have both.I like the playability of the SG but prefer the sound of my LesPaul. But lately I have been prefering my PRS Custom 22 over both of them!I have all 3 of those guitars! My LP and SG are Standards...and my fave of all my guitars in my 8 guitar collection is my PRS Custom 22...but in this SG v LP...well I actually think I prefer the SG! Most of the tone is there, but the lightness and upper fret access is better on the SG, slightly less sustain is about the only thing the SG lacks against the LP...but in all fairness there's still enough sustain! The so called neck heavyness of the SG is true..but with a wide padded strap on mine its a total non issue. I can let go of the neck on my SG and it will stay right were I left it..so for me the whole thing is just nothing on that score! Listen to Angus and tell me that isnt a fantastic tone...then go listen to Iommi for another. Still you really cant go wrong with an SG or a LP.Oh and I'd always prefer to listen to owners of both guitars over those that just have an opinion or jump on the bandwagon! Members GAS Man
I've owned a Les Paul, but never an SG. Let's not beat around the bush: what are YOUR reasons for preferring one over the other? Let the opinion-fest BEGIN! Let's not be picky here about general tastes but get the general point here.Would you prefer thisOver thisWell, maybe yes, maybe no, but the only correct answer is I WANT BOTHI love the greater sex appeal of a Les Paul, but if I was forced to make one choice and was blind, I'd go with the SG. More ergonomic feel and a spankier tone. But I do prefer more vintage voiced p'ups on an SG. 490s or BBs, not a big fan of the 498 on an SG. It's just not my flavor. i.e. a bit too hard for my tastes.Uh, oh, did I just beat around the bush. I didn't mean to.
Members snowaie
My LP Jr. over any other..I love it because it feels amazing. Best neck. Good weight to it. Unique tone, looks {censored}ing great (also unique). P90 is amazing. My bands style is very versatile, and I use the Junior every day for it. Pic is in my sig. Members Tubefox
I own an SG. I don't own a LP, but I've played plenty. I don't think either one is clearly superior, it depends on your play style. My personal preference is for the SG's upper fret access and sound. Members sneakerpimp
i also like their lighter weight and they are generally less fancy and therefore cheaper but still less ubiquitous than LPs, or strats for that matter.

Members Fireproof777
I dig both, but I prefer the LP, specifically the custom. It comes down to what grabs you and for me, my LPC has me in a stranglehold. The balance, the weight (mine's about 11 lbs and I dig that...tone for days), the sound, the overall feel. Pure perfection imo.
