Members Furtive
To clarify, it's a 1958 ES-140T. With all original hardware and electronics replaced with new Gibson parts. And a repaired headstock. It's a fun little guitar, but I don't want to use a strap that attaches to the headstock. What say you? Go for it? Or since the heel has remained unscathed for 52 years, I shouldn't be the one to screw it up?
Members Elias Graves
I'm a believer that a guitar is a tool and it needs to do what you need it to do. Hell, Jimmy Page shaved the neck on a 59 burst! I don't hesitate to modify things, and given that it's not all original now, I say go for it. To me, it's either a guitar or a museum piece. If the former, play it, modify it, abuse it. If the latter, give it to someone who will put it on display. EG
Members Furtive
That's what I'm going to do. I've restored vintage guitars and amps, but never modified the old stuff. This will be a first for me.
Members Flogger59
Well, it's not high value and already boogered, so I say go for it.
