Thanks man!

Got the 49 Deluxe (serial number 1049) looking pretty good as well.

Looking forward to doing some recording with both!

finally getting the paint off. If you look close you'll see the horizontal (instead of diagonal) tweed.

Good week for amp hunting!

Can't wait to hear the Gibson in action. I've always loved the looks of their amps but have no idea how they sound other than the "Gibtone" model in my HD500.

These are really, really cool amps.

I have always wanted one but when they were out they were really expensive.

They're Class A (very AC-30 ish) and were really expensive when they came out. I remember seeing Joe Perry with a wall of the 4x12/head setups.

They didn't last long and I always thought it was due to price and the fact that Gibson isn't as known for amps as they are for guitars.

I always thought they looked cool - and the sound is great.

The early ones were built in the UK by Trace Elliot. These sound good but the tube sockets are plastic and I have heard of them melting. The USA ones (which used go for the same price) have ceramic sockets and are better built - from what I understand.

They have a fantastic reverb, a 6 watt switch and just really great Vox-ish tone.

Way, way better then anything Vox is making in China (IMHO) and a lot cheaper.

The HCEG way is to buy some new Chinese amp but for about $500 you can really get some killer amps - in the past week I have bought this Gibson and that old Fender for about $500 - both on ebay.

Here is someone's vid from YouTube:

I always thought those old Gibson amps were a bargain, but I don't know enough about wiring to totally rely on one; I figure I'll stick to something recent and/or warrantied until I can afford an amp tech for that kind of stuff.

They were made in the 1990s. To you that is old unreliable wiring???

HNADx2 I tried one of those Goldtones in a store when they first came out, and it sounded great. I couldn't crank it to see what it would do, but I'll bet it's heavenly.

My mistake. Thought we were talking about a Gibby from the 50s/60s.

The 50s and 60s had some kick ass models but honestly the Fenders were just better amps.

There is that one - it's stereo with the angled front - from back then. A friend of mine had (has?) one and man, that thing sounded awesome.

Like I said, I have heard (can't verify) that the Goldtones made in the UK have some problems with the plastic sockets. The USA ones are said to be better built - I have seen the UK and USA go for about the same money.

Someone is selling the 2x12 model for $875 on ebay - bargain. If I needed a bigger amp I would have grabbed it.

Didn't they also have one with 1-12 and 1-10?

I think so but I'm not sure.

I don't know much about these aside from what I posted. If anyone knows more please post.

I do know they sounded good, were around in the mid 90s and were pricey
