My best friend bought a 2X12 combo in Jan this year.

His brother bought the head and cab two months later !

My fav Marshall by far !

Not the biggest fan of the "revoiced" Greenbacks though.

My buddy want to get "real" 25W Greenbacks.

According to him, the "real ones have more low end, than the new stock ones.

He gig 3 times a week with them - every week - no ishooo's !!!

cool! I don't have any experience with greenbacks either way. I have a Weber Blue Alnico in my Crate VC 3112 that I really like though.

I don't have the combo, but I have the 50 watt head and 425A cabinet.

Great sounding amp and I absolutely love it - but it does take some time to get it dialed in. It has unique preamp controls, so you may want to plan a little extra time with it when checking it out.

There's a forum dedicated to the amp here: http://www.marshallvintagemodern.com/ but don't expect too many negative reviews there.

I find the VM less compressed than most Marshall's - especially the JCMs (2000, 800 etc). It is also a mid focused amp, so it'll cut through great... but its not for everyone.

went and tried it at lunch time and you are probably correct that it needs some time to tweek the settings. What I was able to gleen from the vintage mode was the sound was not anything that struck me as being any better than the cleans from my Crate VC. It was actually pretty darn similar, despite the differences in tube make up, etc. The modern mode definately had much more gain than my Crate has which is really not a big deal to me as pedals can get me there on the Crate.

Overall, it's a very nice amp. The used one in question was missing the footswitch and the metal grill on the back that protects the tubes.

edit: one other thing I noticed was a huge volume difference between the vintage and modern mode settings...:freak:
