Members enuenu
What guitar do you think produces the nastiest, meannest and most evil bowell shattering power chords? Should I go 7 string to get those super savage sounds? I would initially guess 6 string is probably preferable as I have never played a 7 and it might take a lot of adjustment. But then again maybe the 7s really sound filth. I want heaps of low end grunt just tearing faces off. Let's keep the budget between $1k & $3k. Maybe I should merely ask "which pickups"? Active pickups for this application? I want to see just how black my DR can get.
Members Snambo
Why not consider some turd inducing baritone monster? (insert various baritone manufacturers here)
Members Tubefox
Probably not actives, they don't sound very evil, just very hot. You're looking for something that isn't very bright. You also may want to consider a 7 string over a baritone, just because it gives you more room to move around and you can still play stuff in standard easily. Members metal0822
ive played a couple agile 7 strings that have been very nice, and my friend just got a silverburst one and it kicks ass. i would check out those and some ibanez ones. i personally like fixed bridges so i like the rg7621, but they make a bunch. Members RaVenCAD
It doesn't matter what kind of guitar you get. Just pick one, tune it down to {censored} and start hitting it. You'll figure it out, one of these days..
Members poolshark
The solution is in your amp. A cranked Triple Rec will make a ukelele sound metal.

Yeah, although the Triple Rec is soundly out of most people's price range. On the cheaper end, I can get decently heavy sounds out of my Ibanez TBX half stack, although it's far from the best amp on the planet. It is, however, $500 for both the head and cab, which makes it pretty decent for the price range.

Members X2Nforever
Agile 8 String Intrepid. It will get brOOTal for you, brah. It comes ith either the passive Cepheus pickups or EMG's.
Members Alecto
If you like the Silverburst colour scheme, I'd suggest the PRS Mike Mushok baritone. Drop a set of Seymour Duncan Blackouts in there and you'll have a guitar that will seriously bring the brootalz.

I've heard some pretty impressive sounds out of the B-52 stuff I've seen, and it's generally affordable.

Members Shiny_Surface
Amp and playing style take precedence for playing/sounding "evil" imo.
Members metal0822
if you read his post, he says MY DR...meaning he already has one. also, if you are unsure, a quick look at his sig shows you he is using a dual rec. i wonder sometimes about the people on this board, is it that theyre not reading? bad reading comprehension? or just people not caring and saying what they want regardless of the question(s)? im not really aiming that at people in this thread as it was subtle, but i see a lot of threads where people come in and give their 2 cents and add something to it that was already stated or ruled out quite a few times already. Members Tubefox
Thanks. My Explorer does it real nice. Just wondering if the black metal crew had specific hardware they use. EMGs are pretty common, of course. And, as mentioned above, Bareknuckle pickups are awesome. Then, in terms of guitar choice, it varies a lot based on specific genre. The technical death metal guys seem to have a fondness for Ibanez RGs, whereas Gibsons are pretty common on the melodic side. I'd suggest looking up what guitars are used by metal musicians whose tone you like.
