Members KAFKamikaze
hello everyone! as the title reads i need help with having all my gear set up. i have it set up how i want to but ive run out of space on my pedal board and want to make a little room. ive heard from various places that pedals like the bbe sonic stomp and rocktron hush work better ran through the efx loop. my rig is set up as follows. BBE Sonic Stomp > Digitech Whammy(wet signal) > Boss Super Overdrive > EHX Metal Muff > MXR Dyna Comp > EHX Memory Man w/ Hazarai > Rocktron Hush the whammy's dry signal just goes into a Korg Pitchblack Tuner and the entire chain goes into the front jack of a Marshall Mode Four. any suggestions or is this set up pretty good? Thanks! n00b pedal junkie Dennis
Members sleewell
if the mode 4 has a fx loop i would put the time based effects in it.
Members KAFKamikaze
well the SMMH has 2 outputs. the left output is going into the front. should i put the right output through the efx loop or what? heres a pic of my pedalboard. Members sleewell
i would do it exactly like you listed in your op but put the memory man inside the fx loop (fx send > memory man > fx return). time based fx (modulation, delay, reverb) sound best in fx loops and not before gain stages. also are the bbe pedals supposed to be at the beginning or end of the signal chain? its been so long since i had one i cant remember. lots of people prefer compression before gain too, try that out and see if you like it better. overall just keep messing around with your pedal order until you find what you like, everyone's tastes are different and something i am telling you could sound better to me but you would hate it. Members KAFKamikaze
haha thanks i will definetly try that out.and about the BBE they say to put it at the beginning just so you get a clean signal for it to process. ive tried it at the end and beginning and it just has more punch when its right a the beginning. i usually click it on whenever im running my SG3 with single coils to give it a little bit more bottom end.and about the gain ill definetly try that out. i hate clicking on the comp just for it to lower my volumethanks so much for the feedback! Members jrockbridge
Pedals won't always sound better in the loop on every amp. It depends how the amp was designed. Many amps have effects loops made only for rack type gear (line level). If you notice a volume drop and the gain doesn't sound right after adding a pedal (instrument level) to the loop, you'll know it's the wrong place to put them. Some amps have a switch that allows both pedals and rack gear to be used in the loop. For example, the Blackstar HT5 has that type of switch for the loop. My '94 USA Fender Blues Deville 410 does not work well with pedals in the loop. But, I recently tried the HD500 in the loop for reverb, delay and other effects and it works great with that Fender. Members KAFKamikaze
i did try using the some efx through the loop and noticed the drop of volume as well. there is a decibel boost switch in the back of it also but it didnt make any difference. ill just mess around some more now that i have a better idea of what to do.
