Bittersweet holiday season, but a new guitar may be on Santa's list.

Thanks so much, everyone. Your stories of lost loved ones are wonderful reminders that life on Earth is finite and sweet. And how important is it to spend our time doing what we love, playing music and sharing it with others?

The rental car that I had in CA had XM Satellite radio and I found Pearl Jam Radio (Channel 39). Not to be too philosophical, but PJ's songs are mostly about love, loss, and the downtrodden/forgotten. Songs like Oceans, Given to Fly and Amongst the Waves took on a special meaning. Music is a language that sometimes speaks to the soul in a way that other forms of communication cannot. I hope that all of us, whether we play in our living rooms or in huge arenas, understand that. And there is no instrument more expressive of human emotions than the guitar, save perhaps the human voice. As Rob Zombie says, "Rock the mother{censored}er, Rock the mother{censored}er...sick bubble bum, sick bubble gum." Whatever that means

Hey Doc,

Please accept my condolences. No matter how old you are, how well prepared you might think you are, it's always hard to loose your mom. My mom died of cancer. After nearly 3 weeks in a coma, we all knew she was going to pass. It's been almost 30 years now and I still miss her. I know your mom was proud of you, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry for your loss. My mother passed in 1998 and I happily was able to play her some music for her that she was surprised I was able to produce prior to her passing as well.

The guitar I bought with the money she left is a keeper and can be heard here:

Sweet guitar and rig! Love the red Jackson. Nice tribute to your mom. I'm gonna play at her memorial service (we're having it after the holidays). She loved Springsteen, Dan Fogelberg, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt. Plenty of memorial-worthy material from those artists.
