Calling Bugera V22 Owners

Absolutely happy. I've had mine for maybe just under a year or so or something like that. The first one I got had the notorious channel switching bug. I returned it and the second one was fine. As for the tone, this thing has tone for days! By far the warmest sounding amp I have. The boost button is also a nice touch. Changes the voicing of the amp and gives it a more middy voxish type of tone. The clean channel is awesome. The triode/pentode switch is great too. Gives you the option of running it at 13 or 22 watts. And each setting sounds different, not just a difference in headroom but the characteristics of the amp change. Set at 13 watts it has a lot more sag and at 22 watts it's a little sharper and more in your face.

I have a crapload of amps sitting here in a corner ranging from a 100 watt head to a palomino V32 combo and also a head. Ever since I got the bugera, they have all sat in the corner gathering dust. I've gigged it an average of 4 times a month since I've had it and never had a problem. Actually one problem...one of the stock tubes went microphonic so I replaced all the tubes and problem solved.

The rest of my band also thinks it's the best sounding amp I have.

Overall, I'd rate it a 9 out of 10.

Have one and LOVE it! Constantly get props on my tone... Did an open mic at a LARGE club alongside a guy with a Carvin Legacy amp and half-stack... They made ME turn down to 6... I retubed mine and found it responds very well to tube changes. If you don't like the OD with the stock tubes, get a batch and swap them until you find the "sweet ones". I ended up with old Mullards... Zero reliability issues. The place where I played alongside the Legacy had pretty suspect wiring and lighting. The Legacy would buzz like a banshee. The Bugera was quiet as a mouse.

Woody...

I've had mine for I guess 5 or 6 months now if I remember correctly and it sees daily in-home use. For perspective I had a new AC15 and a Laney Lionheart 112 that both went while the Bugera stayed. It isn't necessarily a better amp...but it is a better amp for my needs. I preferred the overdrive and the flexibility of the clean/crunch/pretty heavy overdrive options...I didn't get on well with the Vox beyond a very slight break-up tone that was pretty nice...and the Laney was a one-trick pony for me with a nice clean...though it requires dial tweaking to alternate between low gain and heavier stuff I felt like it had a more pleasing overall tone and was more flexible...

It has been a solid unit though I do have a high pitch rattle coming from one of the tubes in the back that is audible through the speaker...

I have been VERY impressed with the tone and think the reverb is pretty nice...I can get strikingly beautiful clean tones and in fact they're so good that I've become a mostly clean player now...the drive gets a great "what's the frequency kenneth" tone and the amp in general handles a boost well...it absolutely smokes (not in the Bugera fire sense) through the handwired Marshall greenback cab but the stock speakers work really well with the voicing of the amp as well...

Footswitching has been quiet and reliable in-home...

For the money I'm extremely happy and will probably leave this amp as my EL84 monster and spend the money from the Vox and Laney on some 6v6 and EL34 goodness...

PsychWar - that is interesting - because a Vox AC15 (of some ilk) is another amp I was considering.

Yarbicus - I had a Jet City 20w Combo for a couple weeks. I ended up returning it because I found it was too bulky - not really too heavy - but too bulky to move around. I mean I did not even like moving it from one room to another. I have a bad back - so this was a pretty big issue for me.

Really? The V22 is that much lighter? I doubt it. Sounds like you need a rolling cart. I get it, though. I'm 43 with the back and knees of a senior citizen!

^^^

I think the V22 is around the same weight - but it was not really weight - it was a problem of bulk. I have a Valveking 112 that I think is like 41 lbs. But I just moved that from one room to another tonight - not a problem. 41 lbs - but not bulky - works OK for me.

I tried several of the Bugera amps and while they sounded quite good I found myself liking the Jet City amps better in that price range, but the V22 is very nice I played one a bunch trying to decide between it and the Jet City, I liked the sound better out of the Jet City since it has a nice useable gain tone, plus I didn't like the look of the Bugera's all that much.

I had one for a quite a while, I never had any reliability issues and it was very flexible and generally strong sounding. I always thought the distortion channel wasn't quite to my taste but the clean channel was very clean and loud and big and good for pedals.

I don't get where this "thin sounding" stuff is coming from, it's very flexible and goes as big and fat as you want it. if you have the "boost" mode pushed in it completely changes the character of the amp -- also, it has two inputs, one is a "bright" input. perhaps you were going into that?

ultimately it's a very strong and flexible tube amp on a budget. in terms of how much you get for that small amount of money it doesn't get much better than that. I really recommend it.

I've had my V22 for over a year and I've worked it hard. No problems with it at all. I wore out the first set of tubes quickly and have JJs that are still going strong in it now. I used my Hot Rod Deluxe at rehearsal tonight and I really missed the V22. The HRDx is still a good amp, but I've just gotten so comfortable with the V22 because of all the time I've spent playing it. I really like the way it sounds.

For what it's worth - a Hot Rod Deluxe cover fits the V22 nearly perfectly and you can find them easily for not much dough.

Tried a V22...didn't care for it much...sounded kinda thin to me. Of course, people will disagree with that...but that was my experience with the V22...
:idk:

Ha Ha. I remember in a post many months ago that you said you though it was a sorry excuse for an amp. Something close to that. Thanks for stopping by.

lol...not to dredge up that whole {censored}fest again but if I'm not mistaken, his problem was ultimately with behringer/bugera in general. He admitted to having a strong anti-bugera bias. I'd say that removes any kind of objectivity when evaluating an amp.

I had a v5 and 22, took both back...v5 was ehh and 22 went out the next day

jump forward to 6 months which was last week... Store had a V22 and a Hotrod deluxe next toeach other, a/b'ed for 1/2 hour, V22 had nothing compared to the Deluxe. I like bottom end and this sounded so much better.

Just a hunk of crap to me

I really enjoy my v22. I have to be honest and say that since the JCA combo arrived it's been more of a backup for me. I use it for practice and jams all the time still... but the JCA gets the nod at gigs. I love the clean channel, and the gain channel. It didn't take me long to dial it in at all. It isn't much lighter than the JCA, but it is smaller in stature. I haven't ever measured or anything, but I understand what you are saying about the Jet City. It is on the large side for combo. I never use the footswitch so I cannot comment on that issue, mine has never given me any trouble at all. For the 300 I spent on it, I am very very pleased.

Also, I own the HRD and The V22. IMO they are similar on the clean side.. and the v22 is a clear winner on the gain channel. YMMV

Interesting. I have the same opinion of some mesa boogie amps. That said, you're comparing a 40 watt 700.00 amp to a 13/22 watt 350.00 amp. That said, I have yet to find a Fender amp with a distortion channel that I like. The Bugera's dirt channel is way ahead of the HRD's.
