Members zantor9
I'd like to get a licensed floyd for around $50 but can't trust anything i find. Is there any kind of cheap ass floyd rose bridges where i don't regret the decision? Thanks
Members The Rossness
no. It's going to cost you double that.
Members zantor9
no. It's going to cost you double that. That's what i figure. OFR's are WAAAY out of my price range. It will cost me half of what the entire guitar project will cost if i got that floyd.
Members zantor9
What about GFS's Floyds? Any experience with them?
Members The Rossness
you could always get a digitech whammy pedal.
Members humbuckerstrat
How about a Floyd Rose Special @ guitarpartsdepot.com. It's only $76. And I heard that you can swap out OFR parts on them should the saddles start messing up and not holding the string in.
Members Badside
Yeah, I second GFS and the "original" Floyd Rose Special. The GFS looks aweful lot like the Gotoh for half the price (Gotoh is MIJ), but the block is only 31mm long. I guess not a problem if it's in a recessed cavity, but my next project has a non-recessed Floyd route so a shorter block would cause problems. Members humbuckerstrat
What about GFS's Floyds? Any experience with them?I don't have any experience with their Floyds, but I have the Wilkinson "Fits All Strats" trem on one of my guitars, and their MIM import Strat trem with the steel block on a couple of my others, and they were all awesome upgrades from the crappy stock trems that came with those guitar, and at a very good price. So I would think that the GFS tremolo is also a very good unit.

Yeah, that's the only problem I have with the GFS Floyd, the small block. I like to use the trem block stopper from AXcessories.com, and the 31mm block just would'nt reach it. The 37mm block on the OFR does, plus I could also upgrade the block on the OFR with a brass block from FloydUpgrades.com. They don't say how big the block is on the Floyd Rose Special @ guitarpartsdepot, tho. It could be 37mm, and you might be able to upgrade it if you want to. Members Mustaine-who?
How about you just pay a little more and get the same Floyd that John Suhr puts on his >$2000 Suhr guitars.. $129 for a Gotoh floyd...insanely cheap price for a great tremelo... http://www.beyondeleven.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Gotoh-floyd-rose

My only problem with the Gotoh-type trem is that the EVH d-Tuna doesn't quite fit under the whale tail because they angled it.

Members humbuckerstrat
This licensed FR comes from Stew-Mac, and it costs 81.90. You can swap out most of the parts on it with OFR parts. The only thing I don't like about it is the shape of the base at the back. I prefer a square base, which the FR Special @ guitarpartsdepot has. So does the double locking licensed FR @ GFS.

Members zantor9
Thanks for the replies everyone. I would like to get something dirt cheap that some of you might have tried that doesn't have any problems. It seems cheap but it's hard to tell if it is really any good? I might consider getting that one if its rep is decent. Also the GFS floyds are around 80$ and that is the highest i'll go Thanks humbuckerstrat, i'll try looking at some of those.

It's the same trem as on the new Kramers (and those from the MusicYo era) and they actually have a pretty good rep. Plenty of youtube videos abusing them. With that said, if you're willing to spend $80 then just get a Floyd Rose Special.
Members RaVenCAD
Look on Ebay for a Schaller that'd been pulled from a Charvel. I see em on there all the time for

I just feel that if i can get a cheapo one and not have problems, i'll leave it. And if it seems just god awful, i'll switch out some parts or start over. I mean, it's not like the whole guitar's {censored}ed.
