Members guitarman3001
so youd plug the guitar into the preamp and output into the return... right. That way you bypass the amp's own preamp and use only the power amp section.

Members craigny
Well, i went last night and I tried out the Twin tube...there are some good sounds in there, some of the patches have too much effects on them, but some of the distortions were pretty cool, with some tweaking i think i can get some decent heavy tons outta it...what really surprised me were some of the cleans...sounded good...so i bought it...well really i just traded a couple of little things i had in my basement collecting dust so i really diddnt have to "spend" anything, so i figured what the heck and ill play around with it. Cool. Should be fun. Like I said earlier, sometimes I miss my rack stuff. It was a lot of fun to play around with. Maybe some day if I move into a bigger place and have room to keep it in I'll hit up ebay and put together a vintage rack system using some of my old favorite units. Members BG76
Well let me ask this..i can basically trade up with the stuff i have here for the twin tube GFX 1, so is it good for metal tones..not nu-metal but 90's era (master of puppets, ride the lighetning?) Is the ADA that much better or better at all? It just would be so much easier for me to get the twin tube GFX 1 cause he has it right here and hes willing to trade so, for the ADA id have to go into the pocket and probably wait a while. I'm going to say that the Twin Tube is not what you want for those tones -BUT - go try it because I bought it used. Like I said, ebay purchase for nostalgia. I use it with headphones once in a while just to mess around with. IIRC (long time ago) the GSP-21 and Twin Tube was advertised with two lesser processors (GSP 7 and IIRC GSP 5). I remember the ad that had them all in it. The GSP-21 Pro and the final version (Legend) came along later and featured presets from KK Downing, etc.... The Twin Tube was a more "vintage" style processor - as goofy as it seems. Some of the presets were 'Dad's Crunch', etc... it had slapback presets, etc.... You may ask why someone who wanted those type of tones would be buying a rack but hey - it was the (early) 90s! Both the GSP-21 and Twin Tube came with foot controllers. I would not consider buying either if it was not included because the stock foot controller worked very, very well with these units and programing a standard MIDI foot controller with a 20 year old (WOW!) machine could end up being a pain. Plus units with the foot controller are available pretty cheap (like I said, none of mine cost more then $100). At the time I remember thinking they were amazing. They were very expensive when new. IIRC the Twin Tube and GSP-21 were about $700 ish - street. To put it into perspective, you could get a new American Standard Strat for about $550 or a Strat Plus for about $700 - so they were not 'low end'. The one thing I can tell you for certain - a friend of mine (we played together back in the day and re-connected on facebook) came over with his Kramer, plugged it into the GSP-21 and it sounded exactly like 1991 metal to me. If that's the sound you're going for it will take you there. They both sound dated - even the Twin Tube sounds like the early 90s despite its 'retro' vibe it sounds like 1990s retro. This isn't really a bad thing I guess, because a old Strat into an old Tweed amp is a dated sound too I suppose. If you're looking for late 80s/early 90s sound it will get you there. Also - the batteries inside can die - you can replace them and the unit works fine with a dead battery - you just lose your patches.

So if i wanted to use headphones, i can just plug them into the mono output?? And i wouldnt mind late 80's early 90's tone so hopefully i can squeeze some good sounds outta it!! Im at work right now so i cant see the unit, but i have the manual that i printed online, and it shows drawings of the front and rear panels, and i dont see a headphone jack....if there isin't can i just plug headphones to the mono output to mess around with it? Members Reverse Entropy
The velocity 100 worked for me with an 8 Ohm 2 X12 open back cabinet. It should be loud enough to gig with (I don't play metal, so I don't need massive low end). Max I've got a Velocity 120 power amp and agree, they are nice amps and work great for medium volume. The V 120 has presence knobs, which are great for balancing your tone at different levels - I rarely need to tweak the EQ, just the presence. If the OP needs something much heavier, I had GREAT sound using my preamp with a 2-space Crown PA poweramp (200/channel into 8 ohms). Because it was one of the older ones with a giant power transformer, it had HUGE amounts of reserve power, and had the most solid lows imaginable. Members craigny
Well I was playing around with the Twin Tube last night, running my guitar into it and running the Twin Tube to the return of the FX loop on my JCM 900 basically bypassing the Marshalls preamp and using the power section only(pretty much what i would get with a rack power amp), good thing about my 900 is that the master vol is on the power amp side so my amps volume still worked but the eq and all other knobs are bypassed... I gotta say that this thing sounds pretty good!! I was getting some nice heavy tones..with some tweaking i fully believe that i can get usable sounds...again alot of the presets have too many effects on them, you can tell by listening to the presets that this thing was developed int the late 80's early 90's..(the inspection sticker is still on it....inspected '91 )...i did'nt get to really edit any pf the patches, or use the preamp's built in EQ but when i get a chance im gonna dive into it and try and set up at least one good clean and one good dirty patch, but im diggin it!!! I want to run my BBE Sonic Maximiser rack unit through the Twin Tube's FX loop and see how that sounds!!The ADA MP-1 wil definatley be the next purchase!!! Im building my tower!!!!!!! Members craigny
Used the Twin Tube at the rehearshal studio for band practice last night. Even on the old solid state Ampeg guitar head they had there it sounded really good. Plugged it into the return in the loop and ran the guitar into the Twin Tube. Just using the factory presets..it cranked man!! Gotta say im pleased with something i got by trading some things that i wasant even using!!! Yeah i hear ya..its definataley usuable and im having fun with it..am i going to use it in my primary live rig?? not sure about that yet, i have to tweak it, loop my sonic maximiser into it and a/b it with JCM stand alone and see..but im getting a power amp rack unit for sure and the ADA MP-1 and im gonna build up the rack rig for sure...im gettng mad into the rack stuff now (the prices are good). Im starting to think that the ADA from what ive heard is going to be it for me...wether i run it in my JCM's loop (ala Scott Ian), or score a nice Tube power amp and run full rack into my cab.....this is going to be fun
