Members eligt
Hi allSo I just got my hands on a Godin SDxt, (http://www.godinguitars.com/godinsdxtp.htm). I love the sound of the guitar and its sustain, really.I don't really care for the sound of the neck p'up, too muddy for me.Also, the highs and mids are great, but the lows are a bit too low, even with the tone knob turned all the way up (treble).Since its a used guitar, maybe the p'ups are worn out. Sometimes it seems to me the sound is a bit fuzzy(??)I was thinking of replacing (some or all of) the pick ups. What would you recommend? Looking for a strat sound, although this guitar isn't exactly a strat. Thanks
Members thecornman
Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell in the neck, Dimarzio Area 61 in the middle and Dimarzio Paf Pro in the bridge. With a push-pull pot to split the buckers.

Members Bun-Bun
ummm thanksanything cheaper? Nothing that's going to be better then stock. Where are you looking that seems to be so expensive? I found DiMarzio's to be cheaper in comparison then some... unless I go to my local store but thats only because DiMarzio's are redicously expensive in canada... Members jedisb
Hi allI don't really care for the sound of the neck p'up, too muddy for me. I've got a Godin SD (same guitar but with SC in the neck and shorter scale length.) I have the same problem with the bridge. Just snagged a Duncan Custom 5 off eBay for $29 for it. Not sure how that would work in the neck though.
Members eligt
I just saw that the brand names were more expensive than others, which aren't neccesarily worse . like GFS for instance...
Members Bun-Bun
Have to be careful with qualifying pickups as worse or better. The only aspects you can really look at absolute like that are build quality and customer service. The rest is subjective. Doesn't matter what company makes it. You need to find the sound that works for you.
Members eligt
yeah, the thing is I won't be able to test the pickup on my guitar beforehand, and I doubt I'll be able to find that same guitar with different pickups to hear them out, so that's why I'm asking for recommendations for this guitar. Members vmanmurph
I know that the Seymour Duncan website has pdf. files for their pickup sounds. They list the power and a brief sound description, but then again those are subjective. Now a pickup in a mahogany guitar will sound different than a maple, but they do give a description of the guitar that the pickup was installed in. I bet Dimarzio, EMG, Bill Lawrence, GFS may have something similar. Another thing that you can try is to lower the front pickup just a little (try a half turn on the screw). It does make a difference. I too have a Godin SD and a Freeway. I like the pickups in the SD better so I am keeping them. The Freeway I am on the fence about. The SD has a maple body and the Freeway has a poplar. I have been told that Godin had their pickups made by Seymour Duncan. I don't know if it is true but it may be worthwhile to email Godin. They are pretty prompt. Have you also thought of trying a different string brand? I find that Ernie Ball, GHS, and Dean markley had more high (treble) to my ears. This might be something to try that is the most inexpensive ($6 a set) instead of buying a new pickup and finding out it is not to your liking. Members Itkovian
Good day! I, too, have an SDxt, and find it's not quite the sound I'm after. I much prefer the sound a Gibson SG puts out. To that end, can anyone recommend affordable pickup replacements that would do the SG sound justice? By affordable, I'm talking a couple hundred or so for a complete set replacement (neck, middle, bridge). Anything past that, and I may as well be looking for a replacement guitar instead. I'm a heavy/stoner rock music style guy....Monster Magnet, The Atomic Bitchwax, The Sword...that kind of stuff. Thanks!Any advice?

Thanks!Any advice? I think that you might be comparing apples and oranges. The Sg is Mahogany neck and body whereas the SDXT is a maple neck and maple/poplar body. Both guitars have humbuckers, but the bridges are different. Thinking about is so is the scale length??If you have a maple fingerboard I don't think that you could get an SG sound. I think I would look for a replacement guitar with a least a mahogany body (i.e. schecter) or get an SG. Frank
