I want to make my sunburst Tele black. (among other mods)

My MIM Tele's finish is getting beat up in a way I don't like... chips out of plastic paint just don't look right. but I absolutely LOVE the neck, and I want to salvage at least that much.

 

So, I was messing around on one of those custom guitar creators. and I came up with this:

 

I just came into possession of a second Tele neck pickup, which I'd like to put in the middle, and I'm looking into the Bigsby kit... but which would you guys recommend, getting my current Tele's body re-finished, or just buying a new, gloss black finished one one (e.g. Warmoth, or USA Custom Guitars?)

I'd go for a new body, or do the refinish yourself. If the body has lots of chips in the poly, it might be a lot easier to just get a new body and sell the sunburst one as a relic tele body on ebay.

 

My tele is pretty similar to what you are going for, minus the bigsby.

I wouldn't do it but that's me. The guitar you made is so different from the original that I would opt to buy a new one that has similar features. Especially one with a 3 pup configuration with black finish. Everything else would be easy to add or replace... and then you'd have two completely individual tone machines.
