Ibanez S470 middle pickup Metal question

Any of you Metal guys actually find this useful?

I still have the stock pickups and whilst I've read that the INFS1 is good for cleans, I don't play anything serious on the clean channel and it sounds {censored} with gain in all 3 positions.

Having the 5 position selector was important when I was choosing a guitar, I cant stand the idea of only using position 1 and 5.

I'm gonna change the pickups in the new year but I've been wondering whether to just buy two humbuckers and wire it like my RG321.

The other option I've been considering is buying a twin blade single coil size job but now I'm writing it down I realise thats probably a bit pointless:lol:

So any of you Metals use it? Even if you replaced it with something else?

I played a S540 for years upon years ..It isn't going to matter what you put in the mid position..The mid pickup on a S type Ibanez to me has always been what i would call a pusher pickup to add tone too the neck or bridge pickup when needed..

I cant ever remember using just the middle pup on for anything in the 12 years i played it.

I have 2 RG models with middle pickups and I have them both cranked down as they get in the way of my picking hand.

I agree that they fatten the bridge pickup a bit when kicked in, but I've never used the middle pickup by itself very often if at all.

Maybe a better pickup in the middle position would help.
