I doubt this idiot even knows who Jimmy Page is. I figure it's better they waste their money making and sending me counterfeit checks than sending them to some other poor soul that doesn't see the scam.....Someone is falling for it because they(the scammers) just keep on keeping on.....year after year.

Apparently it's become big business. I just sold a rather expensive guitar to a guy in Canada and he sent me a business check because he got a better exchange rate than using PayPal (everything was legit, excellent transaction). I went to my bank to verify funds when I got the check just to be on the safe side, and the bank VP was telling me that he had a couple people come in with personal checks drawn on 'banks' in the United States and when they call the number on the check it goes to a call center that seems very legit but is, in fact, completely fake. Apparently these scammers are now organized enough that they have small call centers set up to field fund verification calls on their fake drafts.

that right there is the safest way to go. If they don't mention the specific item in initial message, then it's a scam.

My dopey brother in law almost fell for it recently, trying to sell a boat on CL.

He's wondering why the guy sent him a check amost double the amount they agreed on.

If they ask me about "the item" I just delete their email. That way they don't get my email address via my response.

If they can't even identify what you're selling then it's clearly a scammer.

I hope you all find humor in THE RESOLUTION OF STEVEN DAVID. He lives in mountain view, ca. LOL.

Schachte(me) to steven(retarded US CITIZEN WHO IS SCAMMING, aka not STEVEN)

Steven David,

I entertained this "transaction" for a small moment(about 3 seconds). I then gathered your IP address for your non-TCP/IP or FIREWALL protected e-mail. Steven, I build computers, I build big, powerful, scary computers; you should know as you wanted my $4000 dollar system. I don't have lots of free time, but for you...I made an exception. I pinged all of our transactions, your multiple(subtle) email address changes etc. I then was able to get the latitude and longitude of YOUR ..EXACT physical address. Then I put this in Google Maps ( , ) in this format and I can see exactly where your sitting :) I couldn't wait to get to work to use all my more powerful tools. For fun at work I happen to have access to a very powerful satellite STEVEN, a government one. Myself, and co-workers all had a laugh, as we watched you smoke a cigarette with your fat girlfriend yesterday. Also, did I mention I work for the department of homeland security? Have a nice day ABASSI!. Oh wait, you won't, because you were arrested today...bummer.

-Regards,

Schachte-

True story I work for department of homeland security, I actually googled his e-mail FIRST THING, and this thread came up. When I found out he was trying to scam fellow guitar players, I decided to pursue. I don't stop internet crime as my job, however conveniently I work in the same building as people who do. I became a member here just to share this with you all. Sometimes...we do catch them. I wrote the email purely for your enjoyment. HAVE A GREAT DAY, KEEP HONEST, KEEP PLAYING.

Thats awesome!!! {censored}ing scammers. I've bought lots of stuff off eBay and only been burned twice. Once was for a guitar from hong kong or somewhere. I should have been tipped off by the $60 shipping. Shipping is typically $80ish from within the states. He sent me a letter, with a tracking number, so I could follow it here. I was excited when the tracking number said "out for delivery" imagine my surprise, when I signed an they gave me an envelope.

Luckily I was able to get all my money back from paypal. I guess he had done the same to about 4 other people, all different guitars. I like to stick to eBay because there's some protection, or Craigslist with a face to face transaction.

I passed on a great deal on a power amp. The guy didn't want to ship to Canada. I had a friend in the same city, (in Texas) but they were about an hour apart. She was going to do a face to face cash deal, then I would pay her, and she'd ship it to me. She's working full time and couldn't get to his place. He didn't want to send it COD across the city to her, so I ended up passing on the deal. I could send him a money order, but it just didn't feel right. It could have been legit, but I just didn't want to take the chance. Found the same amp on eBay for about $30 more so I went with that instead.

I figured well, it's $30 more, thats still cheaper than possibly getting burned for $300 AND THEN having to buy another one for $330.

Hahah, nice, I lol'd.

Seriously though, Keef posts here. I know he does. I think Great Dane might be Keef.

Hmmmm I dunno. Keef always strings his guitars with only 5 strings. All the pics of Grate Danes guitars have 6. Seems like an awful pain in the ass to throw those bottom string on just for some pics...

The GREATEST revenge on a scam artist EVER happened here:

If you have the time read through it was AWESOME!

Ummmmm, this is very odd:

"3) Finally, and most disturbingly, Jeff was not heard from again. I personally e-mailed him for permission to run his story on ZUG, but after an initial response, I never heard from him again. All of his Web sites have come down, and he is nowhere to be found."

what happened?!?
