Members maf2k8
Ok so i have a new ( 2010 )Fender American Standard Stratocaster with 1 humbukcer and 2 singles HSS. I am looking to purchase a single pickup pickguard ( Humbucker ) of Ebay ( unless someone could tell me where i could find one ) I never use my neck pickups, nor do i like the single coil tone, BUT i do love strats. I could go with a HH setup and run dual humbuckers but i am more interested in the single pickup/single volume knob setup. I am going to be getting a Seymour Duncan JB for the bridge. I was wondering since pretty much all the wiriing is going to be removed and controls and the switch ( since i am going from 3 pickups and 3 knobs to just 1 pickup 1 knob ) What else would i need? Do i need a volume pot? if so, which one? and wiring or anything else that i should be aware of? Going to order the pickguard and pickup and have a local tech install but i much rather have all the needed parts when i drop it off.
Members chuck1016
Here's the wiring diagram from Seymour Duncan. Doesn't get any simpler than that You can use the volume pot that's already in it, just solder it out of the existing pickguard. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=1hum_1vol EDIT: to answer your question, all you need is the new pickguard, the new pickup, and a volume pot. If you want a new pot for it the standard for humbuckers is 500k.

THe only thing I'd add is the volume pot in the guitar may be a 250k. I'd definitely use a 500k. Maybe even go with a push pull or a small toggle switch to take it out of the circuit. That will send the pup direct out with no treble loss through the volume pot. It will act like a bright boost which can sound really filthy. Members notjonahbutnoah
HEY, OP!!!!! If you don't like the JB don't fret... it's a very specific pickup. Some love some hate... personaly, I hate. Maybe it's your cup of tea, but if not, get a PAF style next, complete opposite of the JB. Also, if you haven't ordered yet, I'll sell you my JB for 30 bux. Black/black, open coils. Used, scratched, but works fine & only 1 owner. Heh "Hey, I hate this pickup, buy it!" I'm a hell of a salesman.
Members niceguy
I have a JB in my Strat. When I first installed it and tried it out at home, I was like "ugh." Then, I took it to band rehearsal, and I went "Ahhhh, now I see!" It's great for cutting through a mix without being obnoxious.
Members Jarick
Yeah JB + Marshall + V30 is a great rock tone with a band and not so much on it's own! You'd need:- pickup- pickguard- 500k audio pot- guitar That's it.
