Hi!

I'm looking for a cheap audio-interface to plug my el.guitar and/or bass-guitar into when gigging.

Maybe mostly for rehearsing and small jamsessions.

I've been looking at the M-Audio Fast Track,

and it seems nice.

But it would be handy to have midi in/out as well.

So, anything in the same price/performance-segment as the Fast Track, with midi?

..pc, win 7 64bit, laptop, dual 2,1Ghz, Reaper, Amplitube Fender.

Thanks!

Playing live depends on how extensive your setup is. What I mean is that when I used a computer and interface live I had rackmount gear. Cases are a safer place for gear during transport and with many pieces of gear in the same 8-10 space case hookups stayed intact for quicker setup/teardown.

An interface I really liked for playing live was the Hercules 16/12 firewire unit. It had great sound quality, the price was right and the unit was surprisingly lightweight. Also it has two midi ports. For me it worked equally well on Mac and PC. Sadly these are out of production now so the only possible place to find one would be eBay. The company has continued to provide updated drivers for the unit.

If you listen to the acoustic guitars at the beginning of the Angie demo here. I did that by plugging my Takamine EF-341SC directly into the Hercules pre-ports (11 &12).

The only USB interface I currently have is the Line 6 KB37. It's a very handy unit because it's not only a great two channel vocal/instrument input device with the reknown POD Farm software, it's also a 37 key keyboard that I frequently use with Reason/Record.

I've never used this in a live situation though and the only thing midi about it is what goes into the computer directly from the keyboard.

I've never noticed any latency issues with the unit and have really only ever used it with a MacBook Pro. The OSX operating system has inherently less latency than Win XP.
