Republics are pretty good. Some players say that if you put National cones in them, they sound great. If you get one, go through Frank,a nd get it off of Republic's website. That way you can ask Frank at Republic, to set it up for you as either a slide guitar, or for plectrum and fingerstyle. He also has some B-stock guitars that he willseel if you ask him about them. I almost bought a Republic Tricone last summer, but it was a wee bit stressful of my finances. Maybe down the road I'll get one.

No wooden biscuit models. I'll pass.

I find the steel and brass models way too limited and middy.

I'll wait for my National M2 or maybe their new M1 Tricone.

I've played a few of the Nationals at my favorite guitar shop. They're pretty cool. But, I must be in the minority for resos - I don't want them for gutbucket slide guitar. Also, I don't like the way the biscuit bridge ones sound - too barky/pecussive, and almost shades of a banjo. I prefer the spider bridge, and the tricone ones.

I much as I think the metal ones have a cool ruanchy lo-fi tone. But I think hey are limited to just that.

The M1/M2 model that keep the biscuit cone (or the new M1 Tricone model) with a wood body offer that bluesy tone but are also much, much more balance, complex and musical sounding in my opinion.
