Members Into Nation
I'd never seen a 12 string bass before.... Looks like this only sparkly.
Members cbh5150
No, but he's been playing 12-strings since the beginning, IIRC. I remember listening to "Live at Budokan" and "Dream Police" in my teens, and having major GAS for that 12-string. I always thought it was a great hybrid of having a bass with a rhythm guitar sorta melded together. Probably a bitch to maintain, let alone play. Members richey888
Back in oh, 198*cough, cough* I had a Hamer 12 bass. Wicked instrument; we called it the manual piano. It was a bitch to maintain, heavy as hell, but an awesome sound. A friend of mine who is also a Waterstone - sponsored (that's what Tommy's playing in the OP's pic)artist tells me that they're much lighter than the old school Hamers (TP played Hamers on Budokan, Dream Police, etc). Good Times. I'll have to look for the ACL episode.
Members Minnie The Moocher
I remember back in the late seventies, listening to Budokan with a headphone and there was this THIRD guitar I could hear - took me days (weeks?) to understand it was Peterson's 12-strings bass, sounding both like a bass and a guitar (or even keys sometimes). Huge tone from a skilled player. BTW I lost interest in CT when Tom left, so it was a joy when he came back - he's definitly part of the Cheap Trick magic. Members Into Nation
The whole concert is here. At 44:00 that sound that Minnie is talking about (I think) shows up. There is a longer solo later. http://video.pbs.org/video/1701084827/
Members Minnie The Moocher
Thank you! Good to see Dax (Nielsen) at the drums, good job, even if obviously I miss good ole Bun. And Robin has lost the extra weight.

Members Minnie The Moocher
Retired, because of health problems (his back I think). Dax (Rick's son) plays the drums now.
