Ive been recently gotten into Paul Gilbert (thanks to Yngtchie Blacksteen for starting this thread ). Not only does it seem like he can play circles around anyone, he can really incorporate his technicality into his song writing too.

Post some good clips of him if you know of any, id really like to get to know more of his stuff but its a bit daunting starting out because of his large library of songs..., ill start :rawk:

Paul Gilbert = pretty much smokes every other guitar player on the planet, that simple.

He understands the who, what, where, when and why of many many types of guitar music.

He just happens to enjoy playing at a 10,000 miles per hour but can pull off soo much!!

he is quite simply my favorite guitar player that although I try to emulate him - I lack any talent at all so it just sounds like garbledy-gook

If I could take lessons from anyone it would be Paul Gilbert. There are a lot of really great players but that does not mean they are any good at teaching(ever see a Yngwie DVD). The guy can do it all and from the start just had a knack for teaching, besides being one of the coolest guys around. I would say checkout his approach to string skipping arpeggios, as they sound great and are a big part of his style and will definitely spice up anyone's playing. I love that tone he has on the solos to Green Tinted Sixties Mind with Mr Big and Norwegian Cowbell-solo.

Paul Gilbert is definitely among my favorites in the "shredder" category. It always looks like he's so relaxed when playing some of the most obscenely difficult stuff. makes it look effortless, which is frustrating to watch for a hack like me! Much respect for the guy!

The list in no Particular:

Paul Gilbert

Steve Vai

Buckethead

Joe Satriani

Shawn Lane

Marty Friedman

Jason Becker
