Members LikesLoomis
I had a Vester super strat years ago that I took the {censored} single coil out of and never replaced it. Put a Dimarzio Fred in the bridge and rocked peoples faces off with it.Well, not really...but I did play it like that and had no issues.

Members RogerF
Paul Simon pulled out the neck and bridge pups. Pretty bare bones but it suits him.
Members crowguitar
I'd be concerned with sweat getting in there and messing up the electronics but that's all I could think of. If you sweat that much to begin with, you're guitar has much more to worry about than an exposed pickup rout...lol
Members Alex_SF
Ruyter sweats plenty & it doesn't seem to be a problem. People looking at the empty pickup cavity doesn't seem to be a problem for her either.
Members axegrinder
I don't know why people are telling you to lower it down or modify your playing style - if you don't want it there, just take it outBesides the obvious gapping hole, lowering the pup is the easiest way to achieve the objective while avoiding string removal, pickguard removal, and desoldering. On top of that IF he should want to resell the guitar as stock he'd have to reverse the same process. The only complication I see is if he lowers the pickup too far and runs out of threads on the height adj screw.

Members cuppster
Stuff a tube sock in there, and it'll give you that Highway To Hell rhythm tone.
Members RogerF
Leslie West, when he was with Mountain, removed the neck pup from his V. He said, then, that he used the empty slot as an ashtray. I don't know about the ashtray bit, but yes sir he sure did. You can see him live playing the above mentioned V (you can see the empty neck slot around the 1:02 mark). Members Skyforger
Didn't Richie Blackmore do the same sort of thing? His middle pickup didn't work, so he just left it?
Members CanIBDom
Fill it with baking soda. And sprinkle some in the case while you're at it.
