Members slowhand22
Hi, I am going to get a new custom guitar and don't like fat frets or thick necks. I currently have a Charvel (CSM-1G) which ive found out is a relatively rare guitar. i absolutely love the neck on this baby and want to get the same shaped neck on my new one. its so slick and thin and just amazing to play, but i don't know how to describe it exactly I know there are c shapes, v shapes, and u shapes but i dont think this is any of those heres a few pictures ( *and info* ) on it: http://www.chrisguitars.com/charv90csm1g-red.jpg http://deeaa.pp.fi/Charv/4.jpg http://www.harmonycentral.com/products/91148 I know you guys are very knowledgeable and id REALLY appreciate all the help you can offer !!!! Members cratz2
Have you played many Shredders? Have you played a current production Charvel? I've played a lot of Jacksons, Charvels, Kramers, ESPs, etc... in my day, but off the top of my head, I can't say for sure what kind of neck profile the one in your pic has. In a nutshell, the current production Charvels have a profile very similar to the Warmoth 'Standard thin' which if about like if you took a standard Fender C profile neck and shaved off maybe 1 or 2 mm from the center or the thickest part. Many of the OLD Charvels from way back in the had a similar profile and I'd have to say that overall, this is my favorite neck profile. More meaty than a really thin Jackson neck, but not quite as thick as a standard Fender. I have a Warmoth Pro neck on my #1 strat that is this profile and, though I've owned an 86 Soloist and an 89-ish Kramer Stagemaster which definitely had wide/thin necks, if I were to buy a shredder today, it would absolutely be a current production Charvel. Love the profile, love the oil finish. It's just about perfect. A lot of Jacksons and Charvels had an even wider and thinner feeling than that and some had pretty close to a standard Fender C or U type profile. Hopefully someone that really knows Charvels can chime in with comments on your exact neck.
