Let the GAS begin. Here's what just jumped to the top of my list: a Kurtified Fender Jaguar, model number HJG-66KC, and only available in Japan:

This is a replica of Kurt Cobain's modified sunburst '66 Jaguar with a Tune-O-Matic bridge, Dimarzio Super Distortion bridge pickup, Dimarzio PAF neck pickup and other switch/pot changes.

Thankfully, I have a bunch of colleagues from Japan, so scoring one of these awesome guitars is actually within the realm of possibilities. :thu:

(But why are all the really cool guitars only available in Japan? )

That's old news for Jaguar lovers. Also, get the one with the three-way switch in the lower control horn.

It may be old news to you because you were already bitten by the Jaguar GAS bug years ago; years ago, I wasn't even playing guitar, so I was immune. Sadly, my immunity is gone. Hence, it's NEW NEWS to me. :thu:

I just spotted an auction on eBay for the same model I pictured in the original post.

The Buy-It-Now price is $1852 with free shipping from Japan, but there's also this note:

"Even if Shipping cost is free and I will ship as gift, you may be demanded tax by your country's Custom. it depend on your country's law."

I'm assuming that the US tax man will come calling and that the final cost will be much more than $1852..

All the more reason to get a friend to bring one back for me direct from Japan in a hard-shell case.

I really wish a lot of Japan only {censored} was available anywhere.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I start drolling whenever I visit Japanese guitar sites that have pages and pages of kick-ass guitars that you'll NEVER see in the U.S. It's a damn shame, especially when half the models I'm drooling over are from American companies like Fender!

Actually, it's freakin' ironic...that's what it is!

The online price in Japan for the Kurtified Jag is 144,900 yen. Using today's exchange rate of 0.009316, this translates to $1350 USD.

So the eBay "Buy-It-Now" price of $1852 is a complete ripoff considering it represents a $500 premium.

Of course, shipping is free, but even if that amounts to $100, a $400 premium on a $1350 guitar is still a big freakin' markup.

Well, I got my CIJ Jag HH Special for $550 on ebay, and my CIJ Standard '62 RI jag for $800, so $1800 is a huge ripoff.

Exactly. You could buy a '62 RI Jag for $800, and then spend $400-500 tops on the upgrades to have your local tech Kurtify it, and you'd still have several hundred left over to buy some smack for Courtney!

You must have done business with one of the
UNPOPULAR
retailers! :poke:

Ishibashi? Unpopular? I dont think so! You may be misinformed, or maybe there willing to ship to Australia but not to the US. Who knows. All i know is that ive got a brand new CIJ Strat and i only payed 800 bucks for it.

Dude, I was making a joke of handen's post which you quoted.

He said: "None of the popular Japanese guitar sellers are allowed to export any CIJ/MIJ products from Japan."

You said: "How come i recieved a brand new CIJ 58 Strat Re-issue in the mail last week?"

I said: "You must have done business with one of the UNPOPULAR retailers!"

In any event, I have no intention of ordering anything online from Japan and risking either a broken neck occurring somewhere between Tokyo and Seattle or having the tax man tell me I owe $500 in additional customs fees.

Like I said, I have several colleagues from Japan, and I actually jam with one of 'em. The others would, I'm sure, be more than happy to act as my personal, on-site buyer and acquire the Kurtified Jag of my dreams, making sure I get a nice one, and then bring it back to the states duty free as if it were their own axe.
