Members GAS Man
I remember the first amp I ever bought from a music store. I wanted the owner to demo the amp for me because I cringed at the thought of demoing my suckiness in public. That was some 25 years ago.
Members BeerBaron
Well if it is a tube amplifier, you have to turn the volume up a little more than most would appreciate. To really know what it sounds like. Even so.. I am not the best player and I keep the volume on the down low. For the people around me (volume and half ass playing wise) and just in general. Members Gas Hed
A long while back I went into Cintioli's in Philly to check out the Hamer Specials when they came out. I had the amp pretty low, one of the salesman walked by and CRANKED the master and said "play it dude". I did. Fortunately my friend was with me and said "you gotta stop playing". I still have nightmares about that day...

Members bluesnapper
Volume is one thing... but I find the really bad players appear to have an obsession with treble. Really breaks my ears!
Members Taylor.
When demoing an amp obviously it needs to hit a certain volume to sound like it should . . . so I usually play it there for about a minute and don't try anything fancy.
