I think you said you are an attorney or something like that. Are you in a band too ? Did you obtain all the fine instruments you own as an investment ? Something to pass on when you are gone ? Just for variety and to play (sometimes) ? Whats the story ? Just plain old fashion gas ? To show off ? (I like to do that too)

Lou's a truck driver (self-employed?). He bought them for various reasons, but I believe most are investments currently. He's also generous enough to share his collection and knowledge with us pretty regularly.

...and you mighta gotten a better respone via PM. Some are gonna think you're trollin' ;)

I haven't been around very long, but I think Mr. Bbreaker (among a few other notables) is the perfect example of what nearly all of us would do given the funding. Personally, I love seeing his pics. By the sound of his posts, he sound like he's probably a pretty nice guy to boot.

I don't know why I thought he was a lawyer, maybe he had some posts about the law, or I got a little confused (thats easy for me). I guess truck drivers make good change. Ya I really like looking at your guitars, just wondering, thats all. It's the best (well one of the best) collection of cool electric guitars and amps on the 'net (you must know that though).

I've been self employed since the early 80's.

Sole proprietor trucker.

I've been playing since....about 1967.

Played in lots of bands, was on MTV's Basement Tapes sometime in the 80's.

Do mostly fill ins these days.

For the last 10 years, I've been playing in praise & worship groups.

I'll hopefully be supporting children and teen music ministries at my local church.

My gear is used to play with.

I buy stuff to use.

Not to put in a trophy case.

Since my trucking work has been in the crapper, I do some work for NJ Lawyers Service.

It helps pay the bills.

Do you ever let the kids in your church band play a particular guitar ? Do you "rotate" them each week ? Just curious, hope you don't mind. If you do I'll just stfu.

Investments????

I try to buy quality gear at a frugal price.

You'd be surprised what you can get with a bit of haggling and lots of luck.

If it ain't played....it ain't stayin'

I use Adamas and Ovation guitars when I play live.

The kids, if they're well behaved, can play any of my guitars.

I play Gibson; Guild; Martin and Dobros in the studio.

If I have the room, I'll have my guitars on Gracie stands.......anyone can play with me.

Heh. That came across a bit different than I had intended. What I meant was they're purchased with an eye toward increasing value. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I've read you referring to them as part of your retirement, no?

Not case queens. I know better ;)

Thats cool you let the kids play your instruments. They must be thrilled when you show up. I know I would be.

Me too :)

My college guitar teacher did the same thing, and is a Heritage endorsee. I got to play his brand new Super Eagle and his old Gibsons as a college kid. He is one cool cat.

I think everything is for sale at the right time and the right moment.

I won't need all these guitars when I'm 75. Too much maintenance..............

I have a Telstar (60's Japanese guitar) that's a novelty piece. It was given to me for helping some friends move to a rental home (after they sold their palace.....incredible home). Something like a Telestar is pocket change.....maybe $50 to $100.00.

I like to find deals and hold on to them. Play them and when it comes time to sell/trade....I'll make some cash above my initial cost. Pass it on to the next to enjoy.

There are other HC'ers that have loads of cool gear..............GreatDane; Armitage; Guitarmandp; Blackhathunter; Azcat; Flogger59....I love to have us all meet and each bring 10 guitars that are special to us. Play em; jam; talk shop....fun stuff. We'll wow ourselves to the point of being humbled and realize that were all fortunate.
