Members vcnyls
So I had a guitar lesson this evening and was playing my ES-335. After the lesson I'm sitting there talking to the guitar teacher with the guitar on my lap, look down the neck and notice that the headstock is twisted!!! The neck is straight and it plays fine but the headstock is all screwed. I've never noticed it before and have had the guitar for 4 years - definitely wasn't always like that. Any idea what happened? Can I fix this??? Some pictures:
Members Orange Jackson
Maybe take a pic from the headstock down.
Members schoolie1
I'm having trouble seeing it in the pics. I've never heard of a neck being straight but twisted around the headstock. Sorry I can't be much help.
Members rchiav
I'm not seeing what you're talking about either. Maybe a different angle..

Members vcnyls
It looks like the guitar neck stayed straight and someone held the top of the headstock and twisted it. Maybe it isn't coming up well in pics. Oh, and I checked and there are no cracks or breaks in the headstock.

Members fiveoclockhero
Are you saying that instead of being angled straight back, there is a slight curve and the headstock seems to be leaning starboard? I think I see it... Although I have no idea what or why it is.
Members Orange Jackson
Don't see it, Bro. One can be deceived when looking from the body up to the headstock. Fingerboard radios can make thinks look twisted that arn't, etc. By looking from the headstock down gives the clearest picture of what a neck is doing, I think. But if you really see a twist, I'd take it to a good shop and get it looked at. Looks like a fun guitar, btw.
Members Jealousblues
like from your picture the left side is twisted lower than the right side?
Members rchiav
I squared up the photo and drew some boxes to compare the alignment of the body to the headstock. It looks like there could be a tiny amount of difference, but then again, what I didn't isn't an exact science. It looks fine to me.
Members vcnyls
Maybe I'm crazy or it's the angle I'm looking at it but I could swear it's twisted. Going to take it to a shop.
Members Emory
that's what you get for playing Twisted Sister tunes.... Doesn't look huge, if it plays fine, I wouldn't mess with it.

On that photo and with the red boxes as reference, it looks like the entire neck is twisted. A bit higher on the right side, way down by the bridge... under the low E or is that just the pickup? Members Fireproof777
Definitely looks twisted to me. That sucks...no idea how that would happen.
Members drunkinminer
It's a Gibson. Trade it in and get a Tele. Those things are built like fucking tanks.
Members fiveoclockhero
I do actually see what you're saying. There's a tilt to it in the way it leans back. But, for me, the operative words are these: The neck is straight and it plays fine It hasn't caused you a single problem in the practical sense? I wouldn't worry TOO much about it. If you do decide to take it in, let us know what they say because I'm curious now.
Members StevenJM
yea in that last pic, i THINK its just the way the bridge is set that makes the neck look twisted. have it looked it, but from the pics you posted, i think it looks ok. good luck man. Members fiveoclockhero
God, the more I look at it, the more I notice it. I know I said above not to worry about it but now that I think about it, that would drive me fucking crazy. What IS going on? It's a Gibson. Trade it in and get a Tele. Those things are built like fucking tanks. I can honestly say that after joining this board and seeing the kinds of experience people have with Gibsons, I will NEVER, EVER buy one of their instruments. I've never seen so many broken headstocks, poorly finished frets and general QC sloppiness in my entire life. I can't believe this company charges what they do. Regardless what we say or you do unless you call them you're punching yourself in the dick. How old is it? Do you have a receipt? I'd call Gibson and talk to them... who knows, could be an issue they knew about and you get a newie... ya never know.
Members aenemated
honestly josh, it looks to me like the bridge towards your low E is a bit high and thus the string tension may be uneven. when's the last time you had it set up? wood's a malleable thing, you know. Members kayd_mon
Have it checked out, but based on the pics, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. If the headstock actually twisted, wouldn't there be signs in the finish?
