I say it exactly the same way, and nobody ever looks at me funny, at least not most of the time.

It's actually in the FAQ on their web site, or was at one time. Ah. Still is. http://www.daddario.com/f_support.html

"How do you pronounce the name D'Addario?

We receive letters each week regarding the correct pronunciation of the D'Addario name. Some years back, we even ran an ad which illustrated an easy way to pronounce the D'Addario name. The name is pronounced phonetically as follows: Da-Dairy-O A simple way to pronounce the most difficult name in musical accessories!"

In high school, I had a friend whose last name was "D'Alessandro". He was also the QB of our football team, and it was freakin' hilarious hearing the other team's PA announcer trying to pronounce his name.

When pronouncing words like "D'Addario", don't let the apostrophe fool you...you pronounce the word as if it's not even there.

But did he hear how they pronounced their name or just how everybody else did? I'm sure they heard it wrong so many times that they never corrected people on it. The company website where they're showing factory tours, bragging on their quality control, etc. would not have it pronounced wrongly.

In Italy we pronounce it like d-a(like mUm)-d-d-a(same)-rio. Looks like an Italian last name, but being them american it's probably right to pronounce it the US way. BTW, I live quite near to D'Addario family's hometown (Salle, Pescara).
