Members csrMark
I don't play metal. More classic rock type sound with maybe a little more bite? I bought a 96 les paul classic. What pickups should I try? 490/498 combo57 classics or Seymour Duncan 59's??? I put a set of 490/498's in my Korina V..............SWEEEEET through my JCM800
Members kayd_mon
I have a '96 LP Classic, too. Awesome guitar - congrats! The '57 Classics will do you better, though the 490/498 set is nice. The Duncan '59s are good (I have a set in a Hamer), but I prefer the Gibson pickups. Members holden_caufield9
I second the 57 Classics. My all time favorite pickup. They just started selling a 4 conductor set on MF. I'm going to put them in my PRS McCarty when I get the coin.
Members cratz2
I love my 57 Classics, but sometimes I wish for a bit more aggressiveness in the bridge.
Members diceman1000
57 classics if you stay Gibson... personally, i'd check out the Rose Pickups New Dawns or the BG Lizzards myself...
Members ashasha
I love my 57 Classics, but sometimes I wish for a bit more aggressiveness in the bridge. The 57 Classic Plus is supposed to be what you are looking for. I've got them in a few of my guitars and I like them although I do wonder how much more aggressive they really are than a standard one. I do absolutely love them. I've got a couple of SD 59's as well and I am big anti-Duncan guy, but they're really good pickups too. They're a bit more focused to me, but they aren't mid heavy and blahh like a JB or anything like that. They seem a bit more civilized to me than the 57 Classics which are just so full sounding. I think that the 59's may cut through better in a band situation and the 57's are fuller and would be better if you play alone a lot. To be honest I don't think that if I had a guitar with either one in there that I'd be looking to swap them out; both are great picks.
Members Spike Li
The duncan 59 and gibson 490 (in the bridge) are pretty much identical IMO so either is great, i think the duncan is cheaper? The 498t is great for classic rock, although the 57 classic + is like a more refined version of it so id say go with that
