so ok, i see folks post up high end gear and all that stuff but for me i really love the sound of a cheap guitar because when you get them to sound good its quite a treat.. a MIA fender that sounds good... is expected,, a SX SST strat copy or Agile that sounds good? not so expected .. so here to the cheaps..

i dig em.. buy what you want but play it..

Me on the left. Not the best pic, but, my main axe for now and probably forever, depending on how many refrets it'll survive. Epiphone Dot Studio, $250ish new with maybe another $100 of mods put into it over the years, GFS Mean 90s and a rotary switch to allow for series and out-of-phase configurations. Kept a little rough to play on, having to fight the guitar a little influences how I play on it...

Paid 150$ for this sucker, installed a pair of pickups I had lying around (Gibson 500T bridge, Duncan Jazz neck), upgraded pots and switch, polished frets, installed new nut, installed graphite string retainers.

It's a screamer now!!!

I love some cheapo guitars - they have so much personality. I like Jack White (I know many here don't...), and I believe he is absolutely right in his assertions that sometimes the best way to explore new sonic territory is to buy some crazy old cheap guitar and turn its limitations into originality...

There are loads of Squiers I'd love to have - only reason I don't already have a brace of CV 50s models is their lack of left handed options. Shame: I adore the neck on my Squier Strat Std - while you certainly can feel the difference in quality on my MIA ,the Squier doesn't embarrass itself. In fact, in some ways I prefer its neck - certainly the profile suits my hand better.

I have been really impressed with the pups on the $35 1996 Squier Strat I bought back in September. I haven't even checked to see if they are ceramic or alnico, but they sound great and nail several Stratty tones really well. (Plus it has a {censored}ing great neck.)

The pups in my SX Stl-50 Tele clone are also not at all bad, but I will be swapping them at some point because when it comes to Teles I am pretty particular with regards to the sound I want.

The one that has really pleased me of late is the pickup on my SX P-bass copy. I've owned and played a TON of P-basses in my day, but this one sounds as good as any with the stock pickup. (Also LOVE the neck on this thing, as well as the one on my SX Tele.)

My first guitar was some kind of Harmony generic thing with those gold foil pickups. Everything about that guitar sucked except the pickups. Wish I still had them.
