sorry i had my headphones on........

That's funny.

And that's a nice tele there. :thu:

I've checked out a couple of the CV teles locally and they've had some issues with fret sprout and sharp edges. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm finding the leftover ones and any good ones are gone quickly.

What do you mean by "locally"? Are they being stored in a place with humidity or temperature issues?

SX's have flamed maple necks too? Whoa, and I thought mine was an oddity.
:idk:

Not all of them. I have an sx tele with a plain maple neck, no flame. The other two I bought used and saw the neck before buying. It's really a gamble.

EDIT: So as to not totally threadjack, here's a link to a post I made w/some pics of my sx tele w/a flamed fingerboard:

I almost picked up a CV Tele the other day, I think they are better bets than the base MIM stuff. I think to get a fender name on the stock of the same quality as a CV you have to move up to the higher end MIM editions.

I think though the smart money are with the Classic Vibes. You certainly found a pretty one! HNGD

The tele I got has a nice smooth neck. I'd even dare to say that it's nicer than my MIJ telecaster neck, as much as it pains me to say an MIC is better than an MIJ (I'm a HUGE MIJ Fender/Squier fan)

I'm a MIJ fanboy too but have to admit these new Squier line guitars that are coming out are done right. My VM is one of the best cnc'd guitars I've ever seen. I finally got around to playing a couple of CV Teles yesterday and I'm a believer in those too. The Custom I picked up was finished flawlessly and I looked it over for 10-15 minutes trying to find something. The only thing I didn't like about it that the 50's had was the lack of brass saddles.

HNGD! Awesome! Enjoy her
:thu:

I also have a CV 50's Tele but my maple neck does not have a deep flame. That's a cool look.

Here's my question of the moment... Why do some CV 50's Teles look like they're Oly White? The website lists it as "Vintage Blonde" and I'm sure MINE is Vintage Blonde but some of the ones I've seen floating around appear to be Olympic White. Just curious.

Maybe it's because the finish is transparent - The grain some totally shows through on some but not on others - maybe it has to do with the color of the pine underneath. Love the look of mine - It's def. not oly-white, but it doesn't really seem to be vintage blonde either.

For what it's worth, absolutely no flame on the neck. Totally consistent - perfect, but no flame...

China is actually about to get into some hot water because they are using so much premium wood in their manufacturing (according to NPR). Something about not being upfront about their forest clearing environmental policies.

I just got an incredible Chinese Tele (Not a Fender). It's no nice, I kind of feel guilty that some rare maple forest was raped for my musical delight.

well, given that the flame maple isnt rare, endangered, or premium... or from china... i dont think you need to feel that guitly.

I'm so tempted to go to L & M to buy one myself but I can't decide whether to buy a 50s or 60s CV tele!

do it!!! I've been through 2 CV 50's teles now this and another one I bought used at L&M for $240! No flame on the used one though, so it was traded for a Breedlove AC200SM.

Very interesting. :) I like that they vary a bit from guitar to guitar. I'll post pics of mine sooner or later.

Yeah, I saw a Chinese Squier in a pawn shop that had THE MOST AMAZING FLAME I had ever seen... we are talking deep, 3D flame like you would see on a Custom Shop or a Suhr... unfortunately, the frets were badly worn and it had the poly finish all over, or I would have absolutely bought it for a project.

I went back to the pawn shop this weekend to take a picture of the Squier I was talking about- the crappy cell phone pics do not do it justice...

OK, I'm seeing that my guitar, under a lot of light, does in fact look to be pure white, like Oly White BUT under other kinds of light, it appears to be more of a Vintage Blonde. Weird, right? I suppose it is the wood coming through the finish and how it interacts with the lighting in the room.

That second photo is blurry and pretty awful but it's a good indication of what I mean when I say that it appears to be more of a blonde in certain lighting. Those are both the same guitar!

Both of those could have been fixed. Fretwork is not hard, and neither is getting all that nasty poly off and replacing it with something more to your liking.

Re the Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele...I bought one in December 2010 from Regent Sounds in Denmark Street, London. It has a similar depth of flame on the neck in slightly broader bands to the one featured in the pics. It was the only one in the shop and the retailer said it was first example he'd seen with any kind of flamed neck. The guitar has tremendous intonation for an instrument with a 3-barrel bridge and plays like a dream. The pine body is resonant and the Alnico III pick-ups have a nicely balanced, clear sound. Fantastic guitar for the money when you consider the hit and miss nature of the Fender American Standard range.

The tele in the pics plays waaaay better than my MIM standard tele and is probably on par with my 80's Fender TLG80-70 MIJ tele. It just needs new pickups and electronics to make it a serious player. but then again... it's such a nice show piece (IMO). I'm on the fence.

I got a big surprise when I bought my Squier CV 60's Jazz Bass

60sJazz002.jpg

60sJazz007.jpg

They are alot more visible with 3d effect from side to side on the headstock

but just to have them there is just ...Stunning!

No doubt it's a maple neck....

How the hell'd they do that on a $300 bass? (I paid $273 new for the CV)
