Members Karma1 Posted June 27, 2011 Members Posted June 27, 2011 The opening riff to "Layla" by Derek and the Dominoes is epic!
Members veracohr Posted June 28, 2011 Members Posted June 28, 2011 Well I came up with a list about a mile long, so here's just a few of them: Kind of a long one: [video=youtube;8qt2WbfotkU] [video=youtube;4lqa4tsg8rY]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lqa4tsg8rY [video=youtube;Thi2FXdFkfM] [video=youtube;onquKz5SYRs] [video=youtube;7KsPZ1f7MDs] Can't find a good video using the original recording, but: [video=youtube;wTrNQCYh70Y] [video=youtube;WEQnzs8wl6E] [video=youtube;a5_QV97eYqM] [video=youtube;c4_huqm7usE]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4_huqm7usE

Members flemtone Posted June 28, 2011 Members Posted June 28, 2011 Can't find a Youtube of it, but the older generation (like me) may remember Blood Sweat and Tears' first album, 'Child is Father to the Man' - the Overture that led into Al Kooper's 'I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know'. If you don't remember it, drag that vinyl out and give it a listen. It's a great album from start to finish.

Members Hard Truth Posted June 28, 2011 Members Posted June 28, 2011 'Don't Want You No More (intro) into 'Not My Cross to Bear' Allman Brothers That was the first thing that came to my mind and was going to be my post. What a way to start a song, an album and a career! Another cool one by them is the intro to Revival, which doesn't sound anything like the rest of the song. Another cool one was Blue Swede doing Hooked on a Feeling with the a capella "hootcha goblle goble" into. (a quick google search shows it as "Ouga Chaka ouga.")
Moderators Lee Knight Posted June 29, 2011 Moderators Posted June 29, 2011 A totally identifiable 2 bars. Only an electric piano playing simple, staccato quarter notes on a minor triad. [video=youtube;FVo_Y2wZ0Tw]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVo_Y2wZ0Tw
Members Hard Truth Posted June 30, 2011 Members Posted June 30, 2011 Let's give credit where its due, Three Dog Night were just a cover band. [video=youtube;haT8g7oKnns]
Moderators Lee Knight Posted June 30, 2011 Moderators Posted June 30, 2011 dude! I'm the worlds biggest Nilsson fan. I prefer Harry's version as well. But the intro of Three Dog Night's version is iconic. Harry's doesn't do that. Not like that. The Three Dog Night arrangement is fantastic. Regardless of any cover band stigma you damn them with. If you prefer I can credit Jimmy Greenspoon. The way he lays into that is perfect.
Members Beck Posted June 30, 2011 Members Posted June 30, 2011 Beatles - Hard Day's Night. I can play that song perfectly up until it changes from the opening chord.
Members 144dB Posted July 1, 2011 Members Posted July 1, 2011 I would generally cite classic rock (Pink Floyd's "Time" comes to mind from Dark Side of the Moon)... But tonight I'll cite a more obscure electronic intro, which is "Jardin De Cecile" from Juno Reactor's Bible of Dreams. Todd

I love this :45 second build to climax intro. Simple, but it never fails to wind me up the its eventual release. SBLAM! [video=youtube;TUbF6eU0Znc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUbF6eU0Znc
