I need a GFS pickup to match the bridge Crunchy Rail that I have. I don't want any AlNiCo II pickups for the neck. As stated in the thread title it's for hard rock & metal so I need something good for solos and cleans. I've narrowed it down to the VEH, Vintage '59, and the Crunchy PAT....I think.

I don't think the Vintage '59 will have the output you need - so one of the other 2 might be the way to go. I've heard alot of pretty good stuff about the VEH.

It's the one I was thinking I'd end up going with. It has the highest DC resistance which might meanit has the highest output. I mean, it is supposed to be the "Van Halen" pickup.

The Crunchy pat is ceramic. Maybe you meant Fat PAT/ http://store.guitarfetish.com/Alnico-Fat-Pat-Boutique-Humbucker-Black_c_66.html

I am in the process of installing a crunchy rail in one of my guitars tonight/this morning and I also have a Ibanez RG550 20th Anniversary guitar with GFS pickups. I was looking for the wiring diagram and found this post. My Ibanez RG550DXMMY (yellow) came with pickups that were intended to be replaced as far as I could tell. A year ago I was on a budget having bought a few too many guitars and I bought the GFS Crunchy Rails and Power Rails pickups with the intention of using them in the bridge position of 2 different guitars. I installed the CR pickup in the bridge position of the RG550. It outshined the stock pickup in the neck so much, (and I had no other pickups to try) I installed the power rail in the neck position. Its now has neck a PR and bridge a CR... it's my favorite guitar to play and has been for a year. I have a soloist with EMG 81 in bridge and neck positions as stock and I would say the GFS are not as clear as the EMGs but the setups are so similar I can go from the soloist w/EMGs to the Ibanez with the 2 diff GFS rails and I only have to adjust my amps treble slightly and the volumes match. The power rail actually is a great neck pickup if you like a lot of sustain and both GFS seem to be just as quiet as the EMGs when I need them to be.May sound over the top but its not for high gain tech metal. Also I know the rating specs for the PR are higher than the CR I am going by real installaion and my ears. If I had the money a year ago I would have put EMG 81s in it but now its so tight so I am leaving it as is.

Yeah, I was wondering why the guy was against using a neck Crunchy Rail as it is made to compliment the bridge version. Also I find for metal solos a neck pickup with ceramic works the best, unless you like that thick wooly sound. Cleans aren't that bad either if your amp has a nice clean channel.

Well, I still might. The Power rails could be too bass-heavy compared to the Crunchy Rails if/when I move this to the mahogany guitar I plan on getting so it would the Crunchy Rails for sure. I think I've got it down to the VEH or the Crunchy Rails neck then. Thanks guys for your help so far!
