Fenders better as 'worn' instruments

A purely subjective argument of course, but with worn guitars, either naturally over time or made that way, I have come to the conclusion that the ONLY two that look 'right', are Fender telecasters and Fender stratocasters, or others with those two body shapes. Nothing else has near the same MOJO...but if you have pics of something other than that, I could change my mind....I think part of it has something to do with maple fretboards...those just seem to just look cooler than rosewood, etc when distressed and there are more Fenders with 'em...

I'll agree that the only beat-up guitars that I've thought looked good were Strats (and some Teles). That said, I've never been remotely interested in a Relic or Road Worn model. If my guitar is going to look beat up, I'd rather it have come from me.

I'm with you genesis3. A Fender Strat or Tele just look right with wear on them. If I see a worn Strat or Tele I think they look great, but a worn Les Paul I think "how could someone let that happen!"

To me the best looking worn guitars are SRV's number 1 and Roy Buchanan's Nancy. Probably because you know the wear came from tons of soulful playing by two masters!

LP's always look better "aged", as in the gloss gets knocked back and the hardware goes from shiny to slightly dulled and dark while the plastics darken. Strats and Teles look good with the paint worn away and chipped. LP's don't look all that great chipped up IMO.

Anybody who buys a guitar already reliced is a wanker, seriously.

Or appreciates a really nice neck. Say what you will about the Roadworn series' 'fake relicing' but the necks, fit and finish on those instruments are some of the best I've seen from Fender in a long while.

I dont trust old guitars that look brand new. Makes me think they sound like crap and thats why no one never played it.

That's why, whenever I'm in vintage shops, I'll always gravitate towards the battered ones. 10 times out of 10 they play better and are loads cheaper than the vintage case queens.
