That looks killer, but for the uninitiated like me, WHAT is it? I assume there's a back story I missed.

ah, sorry about that. This is a based on an older model that Dean made back in the early 1980s for a bit. It was their answer to the superstrat and were bolt on H S S guitars.

Here is one from 1983

After a few of us kept harassing the good folks at Dean to make new ones for us, they agreed and built a few custom ones in the USA shop for us. I think they made 5 or so, and I got the only set neck one (there was one from the 80's that has resurfaced in set neck form as well.)

I had a couple of pictures from the custom shop while it was being built, but before paint.

I was up in Tampa for our yearly Dean Owners of America (DOA) party and went over to HQ and got a few pictures of the guitar back from paint. I went over the electronics and hardware options I wanted with the good folks at Dean. And, pretty cool that their head luthier said..."Oh yeah, I have the original prototype body we made first to make sure we had all the angles and everything right before building yours." He walked over to his desk and brought over a 1 piece mahogany blank that he had to saw in half and then handed to me. Could make a cool clock or something.

"Cool story", and not the "Cool Story Bro" kind of story :)
