Members Invader.CC
The easiest song as of now we play is Mustang sally..I don't really get bored with it when performing live because i do the vocals..Everyday i play all the songs on our bands set list so it is second nature to play them..Mustang sally is one i no longer even bother practicing La Grange is another because i play rhythm only ..So i feel there is no sense in practicing something that i could play when asleep..But this is a bad habit to get into but i just can't help it complacence as taken over. Members Alecto
'Bad Luck' by Social Distortion for me. I could play it in my sleep but it never gets old because of the dynamics.
Members aenemated
there're a handful that make me groan when i get handed the night's setlist. not so much because they're easy or hard; i'm just totally bored playing them. christ, i have the most fun playing the easiest ones because i don't really have to think about anything and can just rock it out. Members eric.chambers
The easy ones are usually the most fun to play, and besides that bar crowds don't usually want to hear anything too complicated.

Members fiveoclockhero
Green Day covers are mind-numbingly easy, but I think they're always fun.Agreed.Hot damn. This thread is a nice little refutation to the annoying "I hate myself because I can't shred and I don't have a PhD signed by Steve Vai" whining I see from guitar players. Enjoy yourself! There's nothing boring about "easy" music!Any time someone who doesn't play guitar tells me they want to start, I tell them to go for it whether they have previous experience or not because... and this is the cool secret... the simplest songs are the ones that everyone likes the best, including the people playing them. Guitar rewards a good time more than it rewards studying.
Members richey888
Mine is easily Mustang too. We had a rockin' crowd the other night and they were eatin' it up (we do a stop on the "Ride Sally Ride" part for crowd sing along that's always fun). Always makes it a fun 5-8 minutes (depending on who gets pointed at for a solo). Pink Houses may be #2.
Members fiveoclockhero
Invader.CC - It's not so bad that you know these songs well enough that you don't have to practice them anymore. Practice something new if you like. I've read of guys in bands who know their own songs so, so well they don't practice on their lonesome in their bedrooms at all anymore... they just get together for band practice to stay tight. I can see how songs might get boring if you played them that many times but... man... a great song is a great song and it never gets old for me. Members Brian Krashpad
Depends on which band, obviously. In Crash Pad, we do a song called "Buffy's Dead." The entire song is : A-E-D-A. In that same order, held for the same time length between changes. Words are different for the choruses, but the progression stays the same. As long as we play it fairly fast, it's not boring. If we let it drag it does get boring. Basically it's our closer with crazy over-the-top solo-ing, at about the 3/4 mark and then as an outro. It's helps that for me I'm the singer so I have lyrics to pay attention to. We tend not to practice the whole thing in rehearsal. We just go over a bit of it to make sure no one's forgotten it, and then move on.
Members Willyguitar
As great as it is, I've become bored with the riff for Tom Petty 'Running down a dream' that we do in our band (already)... although the structure of the song keeps me on my toes a bit, and the chance to just solo how the hell I want at the end makes it worth it. We do Molly's Chambers by Kings of Leon. That's pretty boring guitar wise.
Members FoonkySteve
Easiest song for me is 'Use Me' - Bill Withers. 2 chords! | E7#9/////// | A7//////// | and in the choruses, the guitar drops out! Doesn't get any easier than that! The difficult part is just playing the part, and restraining from playing anything else but the part, becuase that is all the song needs. I know it's not about me! Members notjonahbutnoah
Well, let's see. I think our easiest song is probably our little intro tune that is only C and G. At one point I have a 2 measure lead break, but then 6 measures where I don't play at all (everyone does a little 2 measure diddy... it's put together like a sound check, but written into a :55 second song. That's probably our easiest, and it doesn't bug me. We're a punk band. Simplicity is beautiful.

Members bluesnapper
I am definitely bored with Mustang Sally! I don't care if it makes pretty women dance. I'm not playing it. Ever again. But it is my karaoke song of choice
Members FoonkySteve
I got demoted to rhythm in my band. We currently have 18 songs in our set list. I can play rhythm for any of them half drunk or half asleep. I't's pretty {censored}ing boring, really. Beats sitting on my ass watching TV though, so there ya go. Rhythm, doesn't have to be a demotion. Im sure you can find ways in your new post to make things a little bit more interesting for yourself, without hindering the material of course? You remind me of Screeching Weasel or The Dickies or The Dead Milkmen... actually, those comparisons aren't totally accurate but I guess that's the ballpark. It sounds really {censored}ing cool. If you feel they're holding you back, then {censored} them. Tell them to respect you. You deserve it. EDIT: If you need a new challenge, try backing vocals if you aren't already singing. If I were you, though, I'd find a way to enjoy it. I don't feel a need to be a star as long as I have my groove. (I am half bass player)

Members fiveoclockhero
It's cool that it's a more laidback gig but if you care, it matters at least a little. Like I said, I'd have fun with the simplified role because "simple" can equal "awesome" in my book... HOWEVER... if you feel you're being pushed down and it's frustrating you, either quit or use that spare time to work on a side project. It's your music, do what you like with it. (Also, sorry about your dad and your gf's dad. I hope you're OK. Best.)
Members Bbreaker
The easiest song is probably Sweet Jane. You can do a lot with it.And, it's easy. BTW, Superstition; Stormy Monday; Tumblin' Dice; Honky Tonk Women; Hold On I'm Comin'; Layla...............are cool guitar playing tunes too. Keep rocking, please. Oh my, why thank you! This style of old school punk rock and roll is not really in vogue right now, it's crazy how kids today are so brainwashed by auto-tune and the rest of all the studio production things available that they have somehow gotten the crazy notion that one has to be able to sing in order to front a punk rock band! Years ago I posted some of our stuff on one of those "post and get rated" sites (garageband.com maybe?), and the responses were downright hilarious. I know at one point the vocals got compared rather unfavorably to Donald Duck, as well as numerous other unflattering comments, haha. Which of course were factually dead-on, but nevertheless entirely missed the mark! Have these kids not ever heard Johnny Rotten, Jello Biafra, Iggy Pop?Anyhow, I can definitely hear the Screaching Weasel/Dickies/Milkmen influence/similarities, so kudos to you for being one of the people who "gets it!" Right now Crash Pad is sorta on hiatus whilst I finish up recuperating from my chemo/radiation treatments that wrapped up a couple weeks ago. I had a tonsil taken out in November 2010 and could already "sing" again within a month or so from that surgery, but that was before I started getting my neck nuked on a daily basis for 7 weeks straight. Plus our rhythm guitarist is about to become a baby-daddy (sigh, how punk rock is that? haha), but hopefully in another couple months I can start booking stuff again. We got a new bassist in October who actually can sing (he was the music director for my church's praise band for awhile), so we'll be adding some harmony backing to my snarling and sneering. Would love to finally get back in the studio and record another 10 songs or so, our current set-list is made up entirely of stuff not on our sole CD release (mostly stuff written after the CD, but in a couple cases some really old stuff never released, or never released on CD), so theoretically it could be possible to get something new out by the end of the year. Thanks for listening! Members warriorpoet
Blessed Be Your Name- Matt RedmanNo, I don't get bored, but mostly because everyone 'round here knows it so well, it's like a 300 member choir singing back. Now if you really want to shake things up, set yourself a couple dozen taget topics on a sheet of paper and start writing. Go in order.
Members Mechanoized
Cage the Elephant - Back Against the Wall I am by no means a fan of this song, or group. We played it at our last show for the first time and I've convinced the rest of the band that it's a terrible tune to cover. Here's hoping my push to cover QOTSA - Do It Again will finally be taken up. As far as originals go there's 2 that are both very easy and, honestly, just kind of "off" from our vibe and I wouldn't mind eliminating them; we'd need more material to make up for lost time first. Members A_Gitarman
The one that comes to mind for me is 'Takin Care Of Business'... It's not that it's particularly boring; it usually goes over very well with the crowd, in fact.HOWEVER, the other guitarist in the band handles all of the fills/ leads & we've got plenty of singers covering the vocals/ harmonies, so I am relegated to just playing the rhythm part... over... and over... and over. It gets so bad that I find myself playing around with the chord positions & voicings just to keep from getting a cramp in my left hand

Thanks for listening! Ah, ignore the haters. I'm sure there will be many and no, they do NOT get it. I think my entire generation was brought up on really polished, glossy studio production and affected vocals and that old-school, slightly ratty punk rock sound is just lost on them. They expect pop music that wears black t-shirts and calls itself "punk" like New Found Glory or whatever. I personally love the fact that such rocking, fun tunes come from people who don't sound like they've had vocal training. None of my favorite bands would make it past the first round of American Idol and I'm quite proud of that. And you're right, if someone doesn't UNDERSTAND your vocals, they've probably never listened to Jello Biafra and that's no friend of mine. As someone who would rather listen to Naked Raygun than A Simple Plan, thanks for keeping true punk vital! And I'm sorry to hear your health issues have put you on the sideline temporarily but keep a good attitude because it's only temporary! Look forward to playing new shows and whenever you can get back into the studio, you'll kick ass all over again. Also, congrats on wrapping up the chemo. Stay positive and good vibes to you. (Tell your no. 2 guitar guy we said congrats on the baby!) Best.
