I am thinking about ordering an ESP Ltd. TE 202, which is a relic'd black tele with a hummer in the neck, maple board for $350.

Have any of you owned or played the lower end ESP Ltd. guitars? If so please offer your thoughts on how the Ltd. line compares with a MIM Fender, or other equally priced guitar on that range.

Thank you for your time on this.

Stephen

I owned a ESP-LTD PB-401...that was $500 new...Build quality and sound quality were on par with guitars worth over twice as much....LTD's are great guitars...i currently have an ESP-LTD Snakebyte (new Hetfield Explorer) on order..however that it a $1000 guitar, byt IMO ESP's or LTD's are great guitars....much better than MIM Fenders IMO or other cheaper priced guitars.

I found an LTD EC-50 for my nephew a couple of years back; it was a stunning guitar for $270. My older brother (who also plays guitar) was also impressed: he told my nephew that if he didn't play it, he'd grab it for his own use!

Just like all cheap guitars you have to play a few of them to find one that is good, the things I noticed on several of them were sharp fret edges and crappy sounding pickups.

I have been looking for an ESP lately and going to shops and playing a bunch of them, I may just order a custom ESP instead of the cheapies.

I have 2 viper 400's and love them. Best 500 dollar pieces of {censored} Ive ever played on. I'd take them over a stock gibson SG any day. Cheap, easily replaced if stolen / broken , and will take a beating.

(I hate the finish on the backs of the necks, but thats what razor blades & sand paper are for )

I love LTDs. I've owned one in the 200 series and it was killer. I'm glad I sold it to my cousin because I still get to play it.

Out of the cheapies, LTDs have been the best in my experience. I really want one of those Teles.

I have heard they are now using Vietnam as a producer on some lines, that would probably scare me off of those particular models. I do know the older ones made in Korea were excellent.

I had a Vietnam made EC-256 and it was very good aside from badly sprouting fret ends. Great guitar overall. The Korean made ones were generally very good indeed.

Wow...you must have got the worst one that they ever made and lucked into the best Epi ever made!!

Dunno man, the thing never stayed in tune, hated the FR and the neck didn't feel comfortable to me at all. The Epi did. *shrugs*

Well, maybe they used cheaper hardware on them...I shouldn't have really said anything since it is a FR bridge as I really don't trust many of the 'licensed by' types although Wilkinson is supposed to be pretty good and Ping & Gotoh also have a reputation of making good ones. A poor bridge (especially a locking bridge) certainly can make a great guitar into a nightmare with no joy. So, despite my 'shot' at the Epi you did the right thing for you and if you didn't do that you'd likely been into the GL for another couple of hund anyway. I do know a few people who are more than happy with their Epis too...I even have a jumbo acoustic that I play quite a bit. Cheers.

Thank you all for the replies. :thu:

I have a $119 pink Squire Bullet Strat that is great but for the pickups, but I wanted an inexpensive Tele and this one looks good. I won't look at anymore MIM Fenders.

I have played some $600 Ltd's that were really nice, and I do expect to replace the pickups and possibly some of the hardware. It is the body and neck that I want to be good, all else aside. That black relic'd tele just seems to be the perfect guitar for a low end piece from a company that has a great rep, and I 've never owned an ESP guitar of any type.

I really appreciate all of the input you have produced for me.

Thank you.

Stephen
