Members seantz
So I have a brand new Les Paul Traditional PRO (DEC 10) and I'm having problems with the nut already. THe G String keeps popping out of the grove. When I look closely it almost looks as if the nut may have cracked slighty right at the grove where the g string sits. I play finger style a lot and like to do a lot of bends real close up the neck near the nut so that may have worn cheap plastic down kinda quick. Anyhow looking like i gotta get a new nut installed. What should I go with? Bone? Any suggestions?

Members DonP
I'm digging the hard 6/6 nylon on my 1956 and my 2009 CR8. The bone nut Dan Erlewine put on my 63 is nice too.

Members fretmonster
This is exactly what you need right here: http://cgi.ebay.com/GRAPH-TECH-TUSQ-PRE-SLOTTED-NUT-GIBSON-LES-PAUL-NEW-/330529190136?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4cf51330f8. This is the best quality nut you can buy from a tonal perspective (not taking into account the purported intonation advantages of an Earvana). I've actually replaced all of the plastic nuts in my collection (including US Hamers and Washburns) save for a cheapy Silvertone Acoustic (big full sound, adequate spacing) and my Gibson Studio Lite (sounds very good with lively harmonics). Was tempted to change out the Gibson but the original is in there so snug and requires an exacto blade to cut out the outline before popping it out. Would be very interested to know just how musical that Gibson nut is however (drop it on a ceramic counter, see if it rings).
